New to Texas / San Antonio. First ride out I had two flat tires thanks to grass burs. Not use to them and so for my last ride I would stop ever so often to remove them from my tires before they punctured the tube. Very annoying to keep stopping. Anyone got a solution or how to deal with them in a sensible manner?

That's why I used the word 'sensible', heh.

Only heard of the protective strips for the rim, not tires.

they make kevlar strips (and some other materials) that fit between the tube and tire, your LBS should have them stocked, usually inexpensive... something like this

New tires may help. Some are more puncture resistant that others. If you don't mind the weight I would second the tire liners Mr. Tuffy has a whole line of them. Sizes to fit pretty much any tire.
