where do I start....lets see...... I got my front wheels of the bike and was doing an inspection of the hubs, I realised that the front hub was laking grease so I figure its only 12bucks at my LBS for greasing my bearings, so I will just walk over with the rim. being the multitask-er that I am, I figure I can drop of the rim and go for a run instead of waiting for the rim to be done at the shop.....since I live next to a large park (the LBS is at one end of the park and my house on the other) I can walk there run to the house and back and the rim will be done. anyways, I'm crossing a busy intersection carrying my wheel when a car runs the red light and smacks me on to the hood.....I was like what the hell just happened. the girl that was driving comes out screaming "did I kill him? did I kill him?" I raise my arm (like in the movies) and wave "no" with my finger, I wanted to talk but could not breathe......minutes go by and the medics show up, the one medic guy looks at me asks me if I'm OK, I say yes....then he asks me, "where is the rest of the bike"....I was a little out of it and point towards my house (across the street) ...the medic looks at me and said, "your still OK after that hit and with no serious Injuries"....At this point I'm think damn I have to be even more confused and out of it than I tough, whats this guy talking about. so a cop shows up and I hear the medic tell the cop that "the car hit him so hard that his bike flew across the street and that some how, he maneged to hold on to the front wheel he wont let go of it". I look at my hands and I have a death grip on my wheel.....all of a sudden I bust out laughing and the medics freak out thinking I was screaming in pain....LOL any who turns out girl was TEXTING wile driving, had no drivers licence no insurance and was using her boyfriends car.....I'm in bed (have been for the past 2 days) no broken bones but lots of big ass bruises.... anyways it was kinda funny, and I'm on Vicodin (this stuff is crazy) and Flexeril (makes me sleepy) so excuse the weird story...SAX

Get checked out. Everything- seriously. I was hit by an old lady this past summer and the real pain wasnt immediate- it took a few weeks before I realized that my hip was messed up. Weeks of therapy later and Im pretty much back to normal but make sure you document everything and get everything paid for even if you have to get a lawyer and go after her for it. Her negligence could have killed you and being a 'nice guy' here wont help you when the medical bills start coming in. I personally would press criminal charges as well.

Lmao...

Glad to hear your ok, but like Dan says be sure and get checked. Great story. I like the finger wave and the death grip on the wheel.

I know how things can move fast at an accident scene. I got T-boned a while back in a Toyota truck while returning from a pizza and soda run. I was dressed in office clothes, white shirt and slacks and when the truck rolled the pizza and coke went everywhere...except on me. It looked like a blood bath inside the truck. The truck landed back on it's wheels and I was able to crawl out through the window. The paramedics arrived and were surprised to find the driver was standing with the spectators in a crisp white shirt. Go figure.

The last child at our house is a 17 year old girl. She's pretty good about her phone, but I am going to share your story to help re-enforce the no using the phone while driving rule.

Again, glad that your still hear to share the story!

I got hit by a car in September. I went to ER, and they took x rays. I was told I was ok, but my shoulder did not seem right. I waited a month and a half to go to a specialist. Get checked out. If I had to do it all over again, I would have made an appointment right away instead of waiting around.

Does her boyfriend have insurance on the car? If so, that will cover your damages, both property and medical.

When the insurance makes an offer, they always low ball you. Make a realistic counter offer if you suffered ANY injuries. And make sure you are 100% before you settle.

Healing vibes your way. There's nothing funny at all about your story, but the way you wrote it up made me chuckle. Sorry about that. I know it's absolutely serious business and I'm so glad it wasn't any worse. I'm the last guy to push for more laws, but these cell phones and cars ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELONG TOGETHER. I worry about that $#$ all the time. Hope you get feeling 100% again soon.!!!

Thanks guys, and you can go ahead and lough, I have a good sense of humor and the whole thing is funny as hell, Painful! but funny. if I could have filmed the whole thing it would have been hilarious....on another note...I got a call from the boy friend and he doesn't have insurance on the car neither. he however offered to pay for all medical bills and for the bike (chuckles)...the thing is I'm a GI and have all the medical care I could possibly need, there was no bike (my rim is OK) I have no broken bones, so I think I'm going to make him a deal, I want both, his and her cell pones...I will destroy them....make them think about what they did...and to pass on the word of the cell phone incident. I don't need $$$$$$ have all I need. Besides they don't have much and they are trying to start life....I was young also and I made a lot of mistakes, I got a lot of brakes that taught me big lessons. that is all, Carry on men........now where are my pills:eek: wath a way to start the year

taking and smashing their cell phones...now that IS a brilliant idea!
done in front of them?
you could have the girl walk around that intersection wearing a sandwich board that reads, "I ran over and nearly killed someone because I was texting on my cell phone while driving - LOL" (the LOL would have a red 'circle-slash' over it)

I also got hit by a chick on a cellphone. She claims she never saw me. Nevertheless, I filed a claim, and her insurance cut me a settlement check for $13,000. Not bad, because I not only replaced/upgraded my entire bike, but also got a truck, a new HDTV, and new laptop too. Whenever you get hit by a car- threatening litigation is your best friend.

Wow, hope you're as okay as you seem to think you are! Heal quickly....

On a more somber note, but related to the dolt that hit you, in our area a year or so ago, this happened.

Excerpted from an article, this an old article, but none the less chilling. I wish they were still alive, so could smack some sense in to them, but alas, they aren't. Be safe out there, and put the damn phone down.

Cheerleaders killed in car crash
(July 14) - Texting while driving may have played a role in last month's crash that killed five recent Fairport High School graduates in New York.

The teens were on their way to a Keuka Lake cottage when their sport utility vehicle swerved into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer.

Bailey Goodman, 17, was driving and Sara Monnat was in the front passenger seat. Both were wearing seat belts. Meredith McClure, Hannah Congdon, and Katie Shirley were in the back seat and not wearing seat belts. All of the teens died on impact.

The crash happened June 26 on Routes 5 and 20 in East Bloomfield, Ontario County.

Sheriff Povero said Bailey overcorrected after passing another car. Speed may have been a factor, as the SUV was going 60 miles per hour on impact. The SUV was pushed 138 feet by the force of the crash.

Seconds before the crash, Bailey received a text message on her cell phone.

Her phone was used to send a text message to a friend who lives in the Canandaigua area at 10:05:02. That friend text messaged her back at 10:06:29. Thirty-eight seconds later, at 10:07:07, the first call came into 911 reporting the accident.

"The records indicate her phone was in use. We will never be able to clearly state she was the one doing the text messaging," said Sheriff Povero.

The airbag module was destroyed by fire. It is a black box-type device that would have said how fast the SUV was going and whether Bailey applied the brakes before the crash.

There were nine eyewitnesses to the crash -- the tractor trailer driver, the driver of the car Bailey passed and his passenger, four of the teens' friends in a car following them, and two people in a car following the tractor trailer.

The sheriff identified the driver of the Mercury Sable Bailey passed as Michael Short, 21, of Honeoye Falls. Sheriff Povero said he slowed down and pulled to the right to allow her to safely pass. The pass began in a legal passing zone, but ended in a no-passing zone.

Alcohol has been ruled out. There is no indication of drug use, but a final toxicology report has not been prepared.

Sheriff Povero said a combination of speed, driver error, driver inexperience, and driver distraction caused the tragedy.

"As we drive a motor vehicle, we need to constantly remind ourselves that this is our main and only responsibility," he said. "This tragedy points out some basic traffic safety principals that apply to all of us in our everyday life."
