Good XC Fork?

814 Views 5 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  bad mechanic
Hey MTBR, I'm looking for a good XC fork now as I realize that the Marzocchi MZ Comp just doesn't cut it for anything besides firetrail. So, I would like to get a good air fork, preferably with lockout. I'm looking to spend around $250, and I wouldn't mind getting a used fork. I have been looking at the Rock Shox 318, Fox Float RL80, and Fox Float RL100. Can anyone please give me suggestions to as what I should get?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that it needs to be compatible with v-brakes.

look here

I'm a fan of Marzocchi. Supposedly their 2010 stuff if hot but nowhere near $250. Here's what is $250:

The Rock Shox Reba used should be under your price point. I've been riding one for a few years that I got for less than that on ebay. I love the fork and they're easy to work on. "Easy to work on" is a key point - mine didn't feel good when I got it, but a quick oil change and it was golden.
- Rock Shox with Motion Control damping
- Fox
- Manitou with TPC / TPC+ damping

Any of those should serve you well if you find them within your budget.
Check out wheelworld.com, I got a 2008 Rockshox Recon SL Air for $189 brand new, just arrived yesterday.

I agree 100%. If you can find a Fox in good nick for under $250, I think you'd be really happy.
