I have been running on the stock tires from my Trek 6500 all season (bontranger jones xr) and I just cannot keep these things planted on climbs and in anything loose. I think a lot of it has to do with my low weight (140 lbs), but it seems like a lot of people have issues with this tire based on the reviews on mtbr.

Can anyone recommend a good tire for riding here in Colorado that might complement my low mass? I mainly ride XC, but the trails here really throw in a mix of everything, so the tire needs to be pretty versatile.

im at 125#, but ive never had problems with traction. i ride DH, so this may not help as much. tire pressure (low pressure increases grip), shock setup (helps keep rear end on the ground) and weight distribution (keep weight on the rear when climbing or pumping when turning) help a lot.

as for tire choice, i run Michelins. plenty of grip. dont last too long though if you ride a lot though.

My daughter is 9 and had the same problem. She'd just spin on lose climbs that were not even that steep. I put WTB Velociraptos on her bike and no more spinning. Pretty cheap tires. I think these tires are made for mud but they work well for her on lose climbs so I'm happy. Plus they have very soft sidewalls and they conform better.
