Good spot, bad shock

972 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  mattsteve
Well, I just got my spot.....built it up on fri night, and went on two rides on sat, and one ride sunday AM. I get back after the ride, and find that the shock (DHX air 5.0) has bulged the seal that wipes off the stanction.

Any ideas on how to get this taken care of ASAP? Ive opened shocks before, but I cannot seem to find the seal from any of my LBS's.

Anyone else had this problem?

Take the lower alu. reducers out, let the air out of the shock, and unscrew the airsleeve and reseat the dust wiper. You can download the video off the Fox site.
Thanks for the advice.....

I opened it up, and found that the shock is shot.....metal part is broken. I hope fox doesnt get upset at me for opening the shock.

Bummer.

My Fox RP3 has stuck down

I went for a ride today and it stuck down. Dang Fox! The only Fox I have ever had good reliability with is a Pushed Vanilla fork and an older Vanilla shock. The rest have had warranty issues within six months of use. Stuck down is an easy fix. It may be an easy fix but I'm wondering if it is time for a Pushed RP3. Fox has some reliability problems with their excellent performing products at times....

PS I will throw my Romic on until it is fixed. Never had one problem with that shock.

why did turner get rid of the romic? or at least keep it as as an option.

i love it on my 5 spot. stupid coil plush. with the rebound properly set it handles highspeed bumps while gluing the wheel to the ground. unlimited traction. the compression really prevents any noticeable bobbing. no bottoming out. all in a simple to use package. what else can you ask for? i recently got a ti spring to quell any shock related ugi. looks damn cool too.

I'm sure there are folks on this board who cringe at the experiecnes they've had with Romics. Seems like it's a roll of the dice for either manufacturer.

yeah, i guess i got one of the good ones :)
Another stuck down DHX air!

Had the shock stick down on my 3 month old Spot last Saturday!

Noticed it was losing pressure in main chamber, approx 30psi over a week, then while out
on my local trails, it stuck down leaving only about 1inch of travel on the shock.

Luckly my LBS is only a few miles from where I was, they have loaned me an RP3 to
keep me riding, until my DHX comes back from repair.

Has anyone had issues with these sticking down after they have been repaired?
( I guess a new sealkit will be fitted ) or does this fix cure any problems with loss of
pressure!

I should add......In usual Turner fashion, Greg set me up with a new shock the day after the old one blew.

Now if I can just get somemore time on the bike, Ill be happy..... :D
