Good all arounder....

Looking for a good all around tire for my steel hardtail (standard trail riding, no racing, no DH), been running Nevegals, but want to try something else. I ride mostly in OH, so I need something that can hook up in some mud, handle roots, rocks, and rolls good for hardpack. In other words, a good all around tire. I still have some life on the Nev's so I can move them around and try something new on the front or back or both. My only real requirement is that it needs to be in the 2.3 to 2.35 range..I am a big guy and like the feel of that size tire.

The Maxxis Ardent seems to be getting a bit of attention, how is that tire?

For those riding in similar conditions, what are you using?
