Going XC to FR, need a new bike. Yeti??

Hey All,

I've been reading through everyone's reviews of all different bikes. I'm buying a new bike setup. I'm thinking about doing a Yeti AS-X mated up with the Manitou Breakout Plus single crown.

I've been riding my el-cheapo Raleigh Ram 3.0 (4.5 inches rear travel) with a judy XC fork that I bought in february as a freeride bike as my skills have increased. I went to Moab in march and ever since the bike just hasn't seemed to be enough for me. I have outgrown it by far. I want something that will take the drops but I can still pedal uphill. I think the Yeti will do it and wieghs in at about 9 lbs for the frame if I'm right.

Also, I've heard rumors about a new line coming out from Shimano called "Hoan" or "Hone". Anyone hear about these yet?? I can't seem to find anything about them on Shimano's site. Rumor has it that they are built with the freerider in mind.

Any ideas or thoughts would be great. Any good places to buy?? I don't want to get screwed and wait for months for a frame to arrive.

Hey.
I dont know much about the bikes as far as how good it is. But as for the hone shiman group.

If you check the shimano site there is a group called SAINT. This is thier freeride group but its serious and therefore costs alot of money. Hone is a soon to be released cheaper more affordable freeride group.

thats all i can help you with
Yeah, I've already checked them out. I've been told that saint is more for the downhiller crowd. I'm sure that it would work for my bike, but as you said, saint is expensive and hone will be cheaper. Any idea on the delivery date for hone? My friends at the bike shops say 2005 model year, so this fall at the latest.

The rest of ya, I forgot to ask about any other frames that you have found to make a good freeride. I've also looked into the heckler. Any thoughts?
i'm just a beginner and only knew about hone coz someone was asking baout it a while ago. As far as frames and diff bikes and stuf fgo i know nothing. sorry about that.

if this was a comp game you would now have to look for a new character in order to move closer to the final level. yes yes i'll go now lol :D
Send me PM...

If you would like any info on the used AS-X I have for sale. Barely had any riding time on it, then won a new bike, so time to create a little more breathing room in my storage area.
You are on the right track as far as picking the ASX w/Sherman Breakout Plus. You should also look at the Orange Patroit Plus w/1.5 headtube or you can get a complete bike from Iron Horse...I think it's the SGS. Check w/ supergo.com.

Me personally? I am riding a '03 Heckler w/Sherman Flick for my trial bike. My freeride/DH bike is a '04 Foes Fly w/888R.

If you are considering the Heckler, just go with the Bullit and throw a Super T on it. If you don't want a dual crown just throw a Z150 or the new 888 single crown on it.

Good Luck
