Going to Norway...

2422 Views 12 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Bikerbob.com
I'm headed to Norway in August, and I'm starting to plan my activities. Are there any Norwegians lurking about this site? I could use some help.

I know I'll be spending some time in Oslo and Stavanger. Where could I rent some bikes and have some fun rides?

I've read Finse is a place to do this. They were mentioning the "Navy Road". Is it worth the trip from Stavanger?

I appreciate any ideas or advice.

Thanks!

Just post in english and you'll get responses in the same.
There's some Norwegians here, OK. Cannot remember names now. Someone has been posting pics in Passion or AM areas. You could also go to the Members List and search by country, or look in the "Europe" section below the US and Canadian Regions.
Hmm, one of the #cycling on Efnet regulars is near Oslo, I'll try to remember to point him to this thread.
Go to the site : http://terrengsykkel.no/ (means trail bike)

Probaly the biggest norvegian mtb site, so you should be sorted there !

I am not from norway, but Denmark, -but it used to belong to us ! :D

Arrrrrgh JELLO, you beat me to it, but now i think the message came through
Do a search for

bikingviking on MTBR, he is a great contact. Jim

this is the last email I had for him: bikingv at yahoo dot com
There are lots of great trails/singletracks in the Oslo or Stavanger area. I would advice you too post on the norwegian forum, you might need some guiding to find these trails. Maybe someone there have a good racommendation for bike renting too. I live here, ergo i have no need too rent bikes.

If you are more into the DH-segment, you might want to take a trip up to Hafjell in Lillehammer, great slopes, and good possibilities for bike renting.
Thanks for all the great info, everyone!
I was in Norway in '07 - Hemsedal to be exact.

We managed to ride heaps of Norwegian (half) track (a bit of a joke in that it was narrower than "single"....)

The good thing about Norway is the "allmensrettn" (probably butchered the spelling there..) which means you can kinda go anywhere as long as you respect the countryside.

There were some great loops around Tijlefjorden and also up on a plateau beneath Skogshodn. Hunndsenvatnet and the ride to Norelie were also pretty cool.

Just lovely big open country and veeery few people, although we were there in September which was bordering on Autumn.

There was also a bike park at the local ski field if you want a day of lift riding.

I'd definitely go back.

Here are some threads about riding in Norway:

So, start planning.

Most norwegians posting in these threads are active here on mtbr.com and at terrengsykkel.no as mentioned above, Including me.

I lived there for 5 years, speak the language, and have some bike customers there to show us around.
Take me with you!

Ta det rolig!
