Heading down to West Virginia for a wedding and packing the bikes. Can anyone give me a heads up on close places to ride. We will be staying at the Canaan Valley Resort and want to hit some trails in the area between the festivities.

I am very fired up! Hopefully some guys that have ridden there can give me a heads up!

Thanks for the help!

My top 3 recommendations...

#1) Plantation Trail (end to end loop from Davis returning via Loop Rd and Blackwater SP)
#2) Canyon Rim (starting in Thomas via FR 18 and 717)
#3) Allegheny Trail (#701) from Loop Rd to Canaan Valley SP

You can probably find maps on the net, or see Roger at Blackwater Bikes. Great riding there, and some fun little trails inside CVSP as well.

The Parmesean Wedges at Sirianni's in Davis are excellent. A must have after a ride for me. Enjoy your trip. When exactly are you going to be there?

I will be down Friday early afternoon and leaving Sunday. We will ride Sat & Sunday and work the wedding around our plans. Thanks for getting back to me. I am all fired up to ride somewhere new.

Maybe you can join us!

Try to find as much mud as possible. This weekend is going to be absolutely beautiful in terms of weather. Not much precip. in sight, cool daytime highs, *shudder*, I wish I was in Canaan Valley and not the Kanawha Valley right now. The high here, in Charleston tomorrow is 71-72 degrees, I'd like to imagine that it will be in the low 60s or upper 50s in the Valley tomorrow.

But do check-out the trails Davis has recommended... Plantation is a favorite, as is the Canyon Rim trail. If you're in the Blackwater Falls SP area (which you will be for Plantation), drive from the Lodge up past the ski area and down to the first trail on the right. Hike, or even bike out on this to the rocky point at the end of the trail. This is one of the pictures you'll see on a WV Tourism brochure, it's spectacular.

There's plenty of FREE good downhill to be had at Timberline Ski Resort as well... if you're feeling spunky drive over there, stop-in the shop, sign the release, grab a trail map and note those trails marked 'Hard', for they really are. I hope your brakes are in good shape. Stop-in at Blackwater Bikes as well for a run-down on everything bike-wise in the Valley as well.

WOW....Back to reality!

It was AMAZING! We went riding around timberline. Went straight up the mountain and hit some crazy trails. The thing that was nice was the variety....single track, crazy climbs, huge rocks! I could spend a lot more time around there......a lot of trails and very cool people!

Thanks for the heads up! WV mountain biking kicks Major A$$.

Yeah, I love the place. My parents actually extended the thought of me getting a job up there next summer and living up there all summer. Yes isolated from friends, but I can't begin to imagine waking-up to a job that lets you bike, kayak, and hike everyday.

I'm going up there to my house thurs. night, taking a good riding buddy, spending fri-mon devouring the singletrack utopia, then coming home on tues. and having a relaxing week before school starts.
