Howdy,

I am thinking about converting my old 3x9 setup to s 1x10 setup and I wanted to ask a couple of questions...

1. Are the 1x10 setups mainly custom made? I can't find any manufacturer that advertizes a 1x10 specific setup.
2. The trails I ride here in Central TX (Austin, S.A.) are hilly so I would like to hear opinions on that chainrain you are using on similar terrains 26, 28?
3. Do you save weight? :)

Thank you for your feedback!

You can just use your current crankset with the single ring you plan on using in the middle ring position on the crank. No need to get a single speed specific crank.

Use whatever you can. This depends more on your fitness and riding style. A good place to start is using a ring with the same number of teeth as the current middle ring on your 3x crank.

Generally, yes.

What Shalom says is dead on, but you will probably need some sort of chainguide to keep from dropping chains. There are lots of ways to keep the chain on and lots of threads to go through on the subject. Also, you will probably have trouble finding anything under a 30 or 28 to take the middle chainring position. Take your bike out a few times and try keeping it in the middle ring the whole time to see how the 32 feels.

Im out of houston, and ride the same trails as you (gotta travel on weekends). I run an 11-34 w/ 36t ring on a blur XCc (25#'s). works for most places, but I'm getting worked at Cameron park. Had no troubles at camp eagle a few months ago. Hope that helps.

I think this thread answered my question but I'm converting my Superfly 100 to 1x10 and have the keeper all picked out, and the ring. What's the recommendation on links to take out of chain. Was four good enough?
Depends on the rest of your setup. Personally, I would break the chain (hopefully you have a magic link) and measure the length to figure it out.

If you are not sure how to, use the search function, as I recall seeing it discussed previously.
