The other day, I overheard the following conversation between my daughter (age 13) and her friend.

Friend: When you pick a sport in high school you should try tennis. (Friend is on tennis team)

Daughter: I already have a sport.

Friend: Oh that's right. You mountain bike.

Daughter: Yes, I do. It's awesome. And terrifying. And sometimes a little bit dangerous. It's totally amazing. You should try it.

Sounds about right, don't you think?

And this smile is pure joy.

I'm a burnt-out triathlete and that is exactly what I'm looking to get out of mountain biking. I'm a lot older than 13, mind you!
