hey guys i'm new here...

Well i am more of a mountain unicyclist...yes unicycle LOL. I love my unicycle (Kh24) but it seems as more of my friends are starting to gte into mountain biking i am starting to get left behind, a single speed unicycle can only go so fast. I have decided to try out mountain biking, and see what it has to offer.

I'm not affraid to spend a bit of money, i want a decent bike thats not gonna die from taking some drops and such. i have taken my unicycle off 6-7 foot drops and hope to do the same with the bike. i'd like to spend between 1300-1900 to get a decent all-mountain bike.

I went to my local bike shop (Roswell Bicycles) and they pointed me towards the cannondale prophet 600 and the giant reign 3. are either of these good? I have read the reviews and it seems they are so so....is there anything else i should look into?

I want a bike with decent suspension travel, and somthing that the fork will last a year before i need to replace it.

thanks alot for the help i will continue to search the forum.

Well because I work at a Giant/Trek dealer, its your lucky day.
Hmmm lets see,

2006 Giant Reign 3.

Frame: Aluxxx Buttem Aluminum
Fork: Rockshox Tora Air- 130mm travel
Shock: Fox Float R
Brakes: Hales Sole XC
F/R Derailler : Deore LX/ SRAM X7
Shifters: X7
Gears:27sp
Rims: WTB SpeedDisc-Trail. 32h Formula 32h Hub
CranK: Raceface Ride XC
Bar/Stem: Easton EA30
BB: RaceFace SRX

Its a great bike for the money. I was looking at a Riegn 2, but I got too good of a deal on my Liquid(which I pick up on Tuesday)!. The Reign 2 will definetly take bigger drops(thanks to the Nixon and through axel.) The Tora is solid, and has air adjust. The only thing I don't like on it is the Hayes Soles. Other than that, its great.

The santa cruz i would need to order....so 1599 for that.

The cannondale prophet 600 i can get for 1599.99 (they won't go any lower than that)..

and the Reign 3 was 1350 but they didn't have it in my size and said if they needed to order a new one it would be 1600 or somthing...i forget the price on the Giant.

I like the Specialized Epic Disc and the Kona Dawg Deluxe.

Cannondale is too expensive for what you get for the money--you'd at least need a Prophet 800 to get a better parts group.

You can also build a Shova ST or a Hustler:D

i;'ve got a prophet 600 and i love it so far. had it 4 months so far and it gets better everytime i ride it, spec isn't too bad but do agree with other peoples thoughts in that your paying a lot for the name and the quality iof the frame / lefty and some of the components may be compromised. Can't compare it to the others however as i'v ridden them, but did test ride a stumpy expert and felt this was the better bike for me. test riding is the only way to be sure i think.
