Yes, we did it. The El Cerritto High School MTB Club have managed to keep our three new girls long enough to get them on bikes with helmets, clothing and shoes. This brings our total number of Girls to 6. It isn't as if this was the only thing on our plate, either. Doing this amidst a Club that ballooned from 11 members to 30 with a volunteer staff set up to handle half that number and nine kids needing bikes and no funding is something to brag about. So we are.
Frankly, it has taken me a year to have the WF perspective soak into me and make sense in my own personal framework and it is something which requires constant work. I have never doubted, however, that the Lounge was an asset to be repected. The Women's Lounge has been a fantastic source of ideas and support. In these last weeks, though, the Lounge has also been a source of material donations. We have also enjoyed a few financial contributions in support of sponsoring one of our girls, Liana, who is an absolute noobie.
With the support of the Norcal Forum and Women's Lounge and Solano Cyclery we were able to make bikes happen. Donations of parts turned into 3 very nice bikes for our new girls; LX-XT, 8 speed, from 26-28 lbs and properly fit and tuned. One bike was pushed further up the line to one of our returning Girl riders making a great improvement on her former ride. Cynthia got the clothing ball rolling with some shoes, Lemonhead tossed some nice jerseys our way along with a great frame, and Chuky sent us some great lycra, tires and wheels. Chuky also hooked us up with Paul at Kenda, who sent us some gorgeous Kenda Skinsuits and goodies. From that we also got some nice support from other Kenda riders who offered to be penpals. And it looks like one of the riders works with Cat Eye and is sending 6 cyclometers. Too cool.
The icing on the cake is that we have just added a Girls Coach, Anne, who was able to ride with the Girls on Wednesday and join us for lunch on Thursday. The Captain of our Club, a boy, gave her a Club T-shirt and the Coaches gave her a Club Jersey. Anne was able to meet our top Girl rider who has been busy with soccer. So they have all met and been seen. And now it is time for the Holiday Break and we can use it.
I promise to keep you all up to date and hope that our Girls will continue to enjoy your support.Thank you so much.

Keep us informed!

This update is great, and it is pretty cool to see how much everyone has helped. I still have a few sources to harass, and will continue to see what I can scare up for your team.

Good luck to you, your girls and your boys! Let us know how things go this season, both the good and the "learning experiences".

Cheers,
C

It's great to see you girls starting up a team. I'm curious about those jerseys. Do you have a "The Bike Pros" in your area. There is one (or was one, it's now a Trek Concept Store (www.thebikepros.com) here in Northwest Indiana. Curious to see their jersey pop up on kids from NoCal.

Just thought you'd like to know whats on the suits (which look great by the way).

They are from Indiana

Paul Forsythe is the Kenda Women's Team Manager ws pulle aboard by Chuck, as i described in the above post. He is in Indiana.
Thanks for your support.

As an Update: another one of the riders on the Kenda Team, by the name of Katie works for Chris Carmichael Training Systems in Colorado Springs and she just sent us two small nicely used kits from them. If anyone out there in Women's Forum land would care to help us with clothing, our 2 "small' girls are in pretty good shape except for arm warmers but our 4 "medium" girls looking at the new girls clothing with ....um... interest.
