Yeah, I'm well out of shape after packing and moving, a hellish few months at work, and trying to get the new place accessible for the mobility-challenged (which gobbles time and budget), but I'm hopeful that there is more racing happening next year. May/June has already filled up nicely here in BC.

Sadly, I've heard that the organizer of the NW Epic Series passed away recently. Covid kept those races out of reach for me, but that is such a great series--fun and competitive, yet laid back at the same time. I hear that Dana's kids will try to run the series. I hope that works out and I get to support those events again.

So, I'm doing my best to stay optimistic. My big goal this year is to solo a couple of 12 hour efforts (12 Hours of Glenridge and the Merritt Crown--hopefully less than 12 hours for that. lol). I'd better set up that trainer.

What's everyone else looking forward to?

I am in the same boat as you. I did manage 2 races last year but 2022 looks good. I hope the calendar stays solid but I am not holding my breath.
I raced the XC at glendridge this year. Have you done the 12 hour before? The course seems really tight for larger fields.

I raced on a team the first year. The field spread out pretty fast and traffic was never really an issue.

Bummer about the NW Epic series organizer. I did the Capitol Forest 50 last year and really enjoyed it. I‘d love to do a race in BC this year. Any series or race that you’d recommend? Preferably 50+ miles.

This year I’ll do the High Cascades 100 for the 4th time, but first time on a singlespeed! Also thinking about doing the Butte 100 the following weekend. I’ll also do a couple shorter races in Oregon (Mudslinger and Sisters Stampede). I would like to do 1 or 2 of the NW Epic Series but it sounds like that is up in the air…

I’m jumping back in this year. Not in the greatest shape due to one of my kiddos getting diagnosed Type 1 diabetic this summer. Been reluctant to venture out on all day rides. Things are getting easier though and I’ve been putting in some miles the past month or so.

Really hoping to get a couple bikepacking races in this year in top of some longer XC stuff. I’ve got my eye on the Kenai 250 and AZT 300.

Check our team skyline, I lined up “with” one of their UCI pros last Saturday.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a new event in Squamish. The new executive director of SORCA is seriously into racing and I know wants to see events in town again.

I hope they bring the ride back through the residential areas. I ”raced” (survived?) the last Test of Metal, and it was so much fun seeing people cheering in their yards as we rode by.

I am trying to force myself back into shape and planning a lot of racing this year. Most of it will be more training racing, but all those races are within a hour and a half so they are low commitment.

Signed up for a local 8 hour race in a couple weekends as my first fitness test. After that I signed up for the True Grit Epic, which will be my first time (though I have ridden and run most of those trails.

Then I have to decide on the High Cascades 100, which I will likely do. Figure out if I want to drive straight from there to Pennsylvania for the Wilderness 101. And then the Telluride 100 after that. Last planned event is the Grizzly 100 (kilometers) which is in my back yard.

Yep looking forward to racing more and improving. I made a lot of progress last year. I have a better bike for this season and it feels fast(er)... we'll see. I'm basically Clyde status though, got my weight down into the 180's and have chosen a XXL Tallboy so I have a bike that actually fits me! First race of the year is this weekend.

I've got this dumb idea in my head that I might want to try this:

They've even thoughtfully provided a training plan!
I did this with a team of 5 last time, before Covid. The trails are great, they put on a no frills event. The only thing is that you have to plan for all types of weather.

What is the longest solo event you have done?

Getting the itch to race a hundy or two, it's been a long time since I raced for a NUE series finish which used to be my yearly target. COVID has me hesitant, so it may just need to be another year of planned epic rides away from racing which will hopefully come to fruition.

A 4hr in late March and a 6hr late April is all that's on the schedule so far.
The speed will be single. Suspension, wether full, hardtail or none at all will be decided closer to (or on) the day :)
