Hey all, I'm new here, and haven't done any riding for probably 6 or 7 years now. I'd like to get back into it now though. The problem is that I've ben out of things for a while now and have no idea what I should be looking for.

I prefer xc and trail riding mostly, but will ride just about anything I don't think will kill me. I've got around $1,500 to spend. I'm thinking full suspension is the way to go for me, but a hardtail that can handle some bigger bumps and drops will work too. I'm not really picky about where I buy the bike. I like GT and Specialized bikes, but mostly because those are what I have experience with. I'm definitely open to any suggestions though. Thanks in advance for the help.

get a 29er hard tail. Specialized makes a good one. If you've got that much to spend look at Scott, Niner, Felt, Rocky Mountain... just my opinion.

I did same thing a few years ago. Do a lot of test rides. I didn't. I re started w/ an expensive FS. I loved how easy it was to handle some trails. But really hated the easy ride. Then i bought a used Klein w/ suspension and really loved it. Then bought another used Klein and made it a SS. Really loved it too. Finally knew what i wanted. Three bikes later, i sold the FS, bought a light Salsa frame, and put together a kick ass sub 20lbs rigid hardtail. Each bike lasted about a year. Now i'm putting together a NIner. Figure out where, and how your going to ride it. My SS kicks as$ is a few spots but would kick my as$ elsewhere. Thus the 1x9 front suspension Niner. Enjoy

Ride a lot of different bikes , you will start to get an idea about what meets your needs . FWIW $1500.00 buy's a lot more in a Hardtail .

Well, I went to a couple LBS, rode a few bikes, and ended up buying a used (but very nice condition) Gary Fisher Roscoe 1 for $1500.

I think I got a pretty good deal and I can't wait to get out and ride it hard.
