I have completed an up-to-date compilation of most if not all the existing trails and related roads (be they recognized or not) we access in the western sector of the JDSF. It encompasses approximately 219+ miles! This ambitious project is for the general public's personal safety and well-being in the JDSF. You can also mushroom hunt confidently in the massive forest and get home to enjoy them.

This daunting project was a way to geo-position in real time anyone with an iPhone or Android in the 30,000+ acres of the western sector of Jackson Demonstration State Forest.

It is not a GPS track developer, but an accurate indicator or position of where you are at any given time. Turn on your phone when going for a ride or a hike. You can see your position utilizing Avenza with this 70.8mb TIFF file. It must be a TIFF file to upload to the Avenza app. Free Avenza edition allow for up to three maps. I will send instructions on how to manage the uploading. PM me with any questions.

If interested in this new phone map for personal use, please consider making a $50 or more tax deductible donation to the Mendocino Trail Stewards (JDSF Info For Users and Activists (mendocinotrailstewards.org) via Trees Foundation (earmark MTS). When you do so, please send me a copy of your receipt from Trees Foundation to my email address:
[email protected] and I will email the file to you. Please send me an email address with your reply from Trees Foundation. I am not taking any compensation for this file.

This is a perfect way to NEVER be lost again...celebrate a safe year in OUR forest.

Best wishes for a merry Solstice

Awesome work, donation happily made. Not at all my home turf, but it's always good to support people doing good work for the greater community. (Also tax relief, even if that new standard deduction kinda swamps itemized deductions.)

Thank you so much for your donation. We really appreciate it. Just this week Cal fire has gone back in again into the Redtail THP. What a mess! The Equestrian Loop trail is obliterated.
MTS has been invaluable to this fight.

This map rocks Roo -donation sent!-keep up the great work on and off the trails....we’ll be up in February to hopefully test out this Avenza in the deep woods of JSDF.
Thank you!!! Your donation is a breath of fresh air as the MTS coffers are running low.

I was recently asked by Erik Wahl of Cal-Fire JDSF to pull my map off the MTS website. He cited some pretty hypocritical reasons for it to be removed. Erik believes I maybe promoting erosion issues. Or possibly encouraging outlaw trail building. If any of these are the case, why hasn't he, as a designated local administrator to TrailForks, asked them to pull their map? Or, asked Catch-a-Canoe to stop selling maps that are even less informative than this one? Even my guidebook? Why isn't JDSF putting up trail signs for "Your Safety"? JDSF's latest, very busy map is wantonly remiss in showing unrecognized trails. These "nonexistent" trails which one could wind up on. Lost! Even S&R would have a tough time finding you. WE do not need any more folks literally dying on our trails.

My latest map shows all of the trails (95%) and roads existing in the western sector of the JDSF (approx.: 219+ miles) which one could wind up on by mistake thus, becoming lost. The new map app is a way to locate closely where one 's current position is at any given moment. Even TrailForks does not do that. The user's "safety and wellbeing", be it a hiker, biker or mushroomer, are first and foremost. Because most of these trails are "Not Recognized" by JDSF, it is therefore assumed they do not exist in the Jackson. He is not taking into account the safely reasons why I created this newest map in the first place. On the contrary, he feels I am further endangering those who view it.

Am I an OUTLAW? Actually, I believe I have the right to responsibly say what I want. A 1st Amendment right issue! I will not afford him the luxury by responding.

Thanks for the background on admin at Cal Fire. Clearly the struggle goes on, but this info is as you say, important for user safety. Even with good GPS mapping and tracks you don't get the big picture that this data affords at a glance.
Fingers crossed for the THP mayhem afoot.
