Im looking to do the Gear Grinder 6hr race April, 26th in Zirconia NC. Has anyone done this race? Or does anyone have any info on the course? There is a course description but no loop mileage or elevation chart. Is this a new event? Or has it been around for a while. This will be my first solo endurance event (if 6hrs is even considered endurance anymore) and i was hoping to get a little info on the race. Hope someone can help!

If anyone is interested i called sycamore cycles and talked to a guy there. He said its a 9 mile loop that is fairly flat but there is on pretty tough climb right out of the staging area on a gravel road. He said the trails are great and its worth doing because they are private so you can only ride them during the race. Hopefully ill see some others out there.

I suppose if you are part of the right racing team you get to pre-ride the course.
Scroll down on their Facebook page and you see some of the course when the Velo Racing Team got to ride it.

Anyways looks more like a 6 hour gravel grinder. Not really my thing but have fun. The money goes to benefit the Henderson County Young Leaders Program.

Actually heard from somebody the other day that the trails are pretty nice.
Steep gravel climb to start but after that the trails are supposedly jam up.

I just finished pre-riding the course about 30min ago. Its a sweet course. The first mile is a STEEP gravel climb (STEEP AND LONG). But after that you hit single track and there are only a few spots that you are on gravel, and most of those are just crossing the gravel road. The single track is great. Narrow with a lot of switch backs. Some really technical climbing and descending. If anyone is bored tomorrow i would recommend signing up, its gonna be a good race. Talked to the director and he said there are only about 60 racers signed up and they have 300 spots, so there is plenty of room. Hopefully see some of yall out there tomorrow.

Playing tour guide tomorrow so I am out.

Too bad, I probably could have gotten a podium finish on the single speed. I may have been the only one on one though. lol
