According to a recently posted e-mail from NICOLAI resp. UNIVERSAL TRANSMISSIONS in the NICOLAI manufacturer´s forum at the German IBC (www.mtb-news.de) the G-Boxx 2 as well as the Ion G-Boxx 2 unfortunately were discontinued so far. May be that they will continue the works on the G-Boxx 3 but neither informations about technical details nor a schedule for presentation. At Eurobike 2010 they will come out with an all-new "Nucleon E2" which should combine the G-Boxx 1 (!) with the geometry of the "Ion".

Have had some usual emails with Karl, he has been really quiet, he told me the following:

At this moment I am deep in an R+D project

So here is hoping that something new will be here for Eurobike..... I must confess I asked Karl re building me a ION GBoxx 2 29er DH frame.... Karl said, just cant do it at present, so my mind is in overdrive, well was some months ago when was in discussion on a 29er DH frame... But now would have to say that have moved thought process, just not enough lift assist terrain here in NZ to warrant a DH bike..... Anyway, it is good to dream.... :)

I must confess I asked Karl re building me a ION GBoxx 2 29er DH frame Please tell us more, maybe a sketch? ;) .... I believe that today´s G-Boxx conception of Karl is bearing much potential for electric bikes. So, given the additional weight burden of the electric equipment for a MTB, the G-Boxx 1 seems to have no longer such a dramatic weight penalty (relatively) at all. Furthermore, I believe that Karl´s gearbox conception gives him the chance to be the first who comes out with a geared up electric bike that will perform like a super light weight MX machine, particularly with a deep and central CG and a lightwight rear suspension (all that advantages of a gearbox bike), in contrast to all the e-bike stuff with wheel hub e-motors (two ecxeptions, so far I know: The GRUBER electric assist (Wörgl/Austria), but it comes without any gearbox within the frame, and the PG Bikes (Regensburg/Germany) electric concept bike "Blacktrail").

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :madman:

I own a diamondback sabbath with gboxx2 and now I hear that they are discontinuing the gboxx2 :( .

Its probably for the best, and I just hope the next one will be compatible with my frame mounts. Just got it back from repair (after a few months in the alps, so wear/damage was understandable), but had it back less than a week and it has failed on me, so its going back again and I wont be able to ride for another month :( . Was such a good concept and I love it while it works, but now its beginning to look unreliable. We'll see what the Gboxx 3 brings (apparently they're getting the trigger shift sorted for that!

Don´t give up, man!

According to Karl´s statement from August 7th 2010 they of course will continue full service for all G-Boxx 2 customers. Furthermore, the G-Boxx 3 would be compatible to the G-Con standard mounts and thus it will be retrofittable.

"Hallo Leute ...

Viele Grüße

Euer Kalle Nicolai"
