Full face xc helmets for pumpkin heads

1371 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  fftfk
I have a giant pumpkin head and do not have any shops that stock full face helmets to try on.
I have non-full face helmets from Garneau that fit perfect, but I haven't seen and full helmets.
With the high costs, I hesitate to order on line....
Any other giant brain-bucket riders out there?

I'm interested in this too. It's a pain ordering things and then sending them back.

I ordered the largest size of the IXS Trigger and the Fox proframe and both are going back because they are too small. The IXS was a joke...could barely get the M/L on my head which is a shame because it was nice and light with what looked like good ventilation. I couldn't close my mouth without biting my cheeks.

The Fox Proframe XL was better but still felt too tight around my forehead and slightly too tight with the largest cheek pads. Felt like I needed an extra cm of room in both areas.

I am on a wait list for the Kali Invader 2.0 for when it is in stock. Will let you know when it comes in stock with how it feels.

FYI - I have a large head but not a huge one. I have never had a hard time getting a hat that fits.

I finally got the Kali Invader 2.0 helmet and unfortunately have to send it back. It was by far the most comfortable of the three helmets, felt very light, and seemed like it would have the best airflow. The largest cheekpads were just a little too tight but felt I could probably wear it (and can also stand to lose a few pounds). The problem for my head is that the adjustment mechanism that has straps that cross upwards at the back of my head. Without moving my head they were digging into the back of my ears. It felt like they would definitely cut into my skin with the movement of riding and in an accident would slice my ear off. My ears might be in a weird place on my head though. It was by far the best fitting helmet of the three I tried so would suggest it as the best option for your pumpkin head. Maybe your ears are a cm or two forward or lower than mine.

Thanks for the update. There are not too many bike shops in Maine that stock full face helmets. It seems like a PITA to order, try on and send back again and again.
Good luck.

My Invader 2.0 was delivered yesterday and I noticed the ears thing you mention but it's not too bad, I need to play around a little bit more. A question about the extra pads, whilst the cheek pads are three distinct sizes all the other pads supplied appear to be identical. There are no markings on any of them and to feel they are exactly the same thickness, was that your experience?

i only tried adjusting the cheek pads as the rest of the pads felt pretty good. Hopefully it works for you as it was my favorite of the ones I tried.
