My go-to sled is in the shop; an SS 69'er. So I have been relegated to my backup; a recently converted GF Cake that is now an SS. This conversion was done on the cheap, I think the only thing I purchased was a $16 SS conversion spacer kit. I left the deralier on for chain tension. The Cake is a single-pivot, which probably provides for a more consistent chain length than multi-pivot FS's.
I'm actually loving it. Sure it turns an average ride into thigh-searing epic, but their still doable. And the 26" wheels with the full suspension make for some great fun.
As much fun as it is to ride some "strange," I still can't wait to get the 69'er back on the trail so I can a greater ROI from my legs.
