FRONT TIRE choice for our tech hardpack

If you lost your rear brake on Geronimo, or Corona De Loma, what FRONT tire would you want to be riding on?

One caveat, it is also the tire you are ok with riding another 15 miles of XC. IOW, not a real slow tire like the assegai for example.

I'd be on the same front tire if my rear brakes are working or not. That said, I'm pretty happy with a DHF for everything around AZ.

Maxxis Forekaster has a good rep as a relatively grippy xc front. I’m a grippier front myself though.
Specialized Eliminator.
Wolfpack MTB Cross 2.4".
Since 2.4" version of Wolfpack have larger knobs than their 2.25" cousin, I don't need MTB Trail which has even more aggressive knobs.
I run the DHF 2.5 on the front of all my bikes.

I ride those trails regularly. Conti Trail King, DHR II, Conti Der Kaiser.

Specialized Eliminator.
As a 200 lb, aggressive rider, what version? Looks like the blk dmnd might be the safer casing.
might be the safer casing.
I use Grid in a 2.6. Fruita, Moab, Sedona, BCT, Phx, no pinchys.... 225# geared up, ride agressivly as I can...
Block Dmnd seemed too heavy, for me....
Kenda Pinners are my go to for dry conditions.

I put a set of specialized ground controls on my hardtail recently and they are great when you want something faster rolling. I was thinking about trying an eliminator front/ground control rear but haven't found much feedback on the new eliminator in the front.
Bonty XR2 in 29x3.0 at 10 psi up front. Everywhere in the west. If you want more grip, try the XR4

i'll second the dhf, but have been running an edge 22 and well the dhf took a shelving until something happens to the 22.

Really hard to beat a DHF or even DHR II on the front. I've tried almost all Maxxis tires and combos and haven't found a front tire with better balance of grip and weight.
Assegai surprised me with how much better it was than the DHF. Wears better too so far. I like it for natty, geronimo and all the rest. I did not like the DHF sidewall flex when at lower PSI.

Agree with assegai, I'll sacrifice the weight for that confidence.
