Hi all,
Does anybody know if the front hub axle should rest on a lip on the susp fork dropouts, with the thru-axle just tightening the blades to the hub? Or is the whole weight/pressure load resting on the thru-axle itself?

Thanks,
Matt

Are you using a rockshock fork? They are designed to fit a larger diameter "torque cap" on the hub. without these bigger end caps the axle does kind of drop too far into the fork, but when you tighten the axle they are fine. Torque caps are optional on some wheels and are supposed to increase wheel to axle stiffness.

Thanks! Yea it's a Rockshox Recon fork, with Shimano MT620 wheels. I also just found out about torque caps and not sure I'll get them actually. Do some even exist for Shimano wheels? I just thought that that puts a lot of pressure on the maxle if the hub doesn't rest on anything. Are there any stories of front axles breaking/cracking?

No. The point load is on the axle, regardless. The torque caps do increase stiffness a bit, but other than that they just help you install the wheel in the fork. It's really not a big deal if you have a RS fork without a torque cap front hub.

These make it easier to get the axle through the hub if you can't get torque caps for your wheel.
