Can i put in whichever Shimano Front Dearilleur I wish without any problems and with out changing anything else?

say i want to put in a Deore front der., is it a direct switch?

Yup... Just two things you have to make sure about:

1) Clamp size (typically three different sizes)
2) Top or bottom pull (cables either goes to the front derailleur from the top of the frame or under the bottom bracket)

The last thing you can think about, and is a concern for some frames is top or bottom swing (which side of the cage itself the clamp is on - above or below).

You will be able to just go into the LBS and say "get me an "X" level of this" to make things easy, though.

p.s. why do you want to change it? Front mechs are one of the least critical components on a bike...

Thanks GMF, your reply is pretty helpful.

Well i don't really want to change it but i was looking on ebay and u can buy brand new Deore front der. for $5.

Seems pretty cheap for a small upgrade. so why not .

just wanted to know as well.
