Hey everyone...

I put on my avid BB7's (from my old bike) on my new bike and have really noticed a lack of front brake power.
Now, I am using Hayes 8" rotors and the adaptors that came with them. My Avid's came off my Giant which had 6" rotors. People have told me that it shouldn't be a problem but man, my front brake is really weak. The rear Avids are working awesome and the front ones were working fine with my Giant. Any ideas or suggestions? Is it just that the pads are worn out? They look fine and I haven't been on them for long.

Help!

If the rotors are used, take 600 grit sandpaper and lots of water and really clean them off, this removes any bedded pad material from them. Resurface the pads by sanding in a figure-8 across some course sandpaper. Then do 50 break-in stops, or just drag your brakes and pedal around. This will help bed the pads in. As they bed in, you'll notice them getting better.

Sounds like possible pad contamination. Do what XSL_will suggested and if that fails "bake" the pads on your stove. Simply place the pads material facing up, crank the stove on high until they stop smoking (that is the contaminants burning off). Let cool for a LONG time (unless you are in to branding) then re-assemble after cleaning the rotor with isopropyl alcohol.

Also check that the alignment is proper on the front caliper.
