Well, work started on the new freeride area/park at the Santos trailsystem in Ocala, FL. This has taken a lot of work by some great people at IMBA, OMBA (ocala mountain biking association), and OGT (office of greenways and trails) and it's finally paying off.

The guys from IMBA flew in on wednesday of last week and the first volunteer day was last sunday. Tommorrow begins more of the building and routing of the "freeride trail" that will run around one or two quarries.

Anyway, here are some pics from the first work day where about 22 people showed up. Hopefully there will be more volunteers tomorrow because there should be a ton of work.

the first two are of some wooden ladders that were built the first sunday. The rest of the pics are of a new drop and some dirt.

These pictures are from freeridesouth.com

Wow.

How things have changed. Santos was one of my favorite places to ride when I lived in gainesville. The mere thought of screwing around building jumps out there would have been scoffed at by omba.

Nice work. I'll be back in florida for the holidays................maybe I should bring a bike. :D :D

The second major volunteer day was cold and rainy for most of the morning but there was still a good turnout. Work was done on shaping the clay berms and rythmn jumps, building wood roll-ins for the beginner drops, and cutting new trail.

Here's more pics.

that is going to be a big drop......it seems like it would be smarter to build the ladders where they are going to be used...rather than pre-assemble
Yeah, all that wood is pressure treated also (a must in florida) so it's really heavy on it's own. That being said all the stuff near that BIG drop is on the opposite side of the quarry pit so the trailers can't get there. Most of the stuff has been moved using a four wheeler and trailer, vans, and trucks but it still has to be hauled up the trails to get it in place.
