There are a lot of factors that comes into play when choosing frames.

One of the biggest is the intended use. A freeride frame will be stronger (or tougher) than a crosscountry frame, while the crosscountry frame will be lighter. The angles are different, geometry, if it's a hardtail or a full suspension, materials, built quality, etc..

Also, there are a lot of stuff that makes the final bike light or not, and whether the weight factor it's important or not to a particular rider and intended use. If you're a light rider, and want to do XC races and epic rides, probably weight is an important factor, but if you're a heavier rider, 2 or 4 pounds will not be noticeable, but the stronger materials are more important.

I'm 230 lbs, and my bike should be around 30-32 lbs, but I really like it. It is light compared to some of my friends bikes, and heavy to some other friends bikes.

1.6 kg for a hardtail is a relatively light weight, if you're talking full sus then it's a great weight!

For hardtails and full sus there are many different configurations or designs. There are a few posters who have tried many frames and others like myself who can only recommend what they have. I recommend a hardtail Giant XTC 2003-2006 or as a cheaper alternative this frame Leader LD-515 or 516H looks pretty darn similar to my Giant.

What type of frame are you looking at and what are your requirements?
