Fox Grip2 Factory 36 vs Fox 34 and some other questions

1771 Views 11 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Polk
Hi all.

I have a Giant Trance (small frame) coming next week which comes with the not so loved Rockshox 35 Gold with 150mm travel.

I am already thinking of ordering either a Fox 34 or 36.

The 36 description says it's for Downhill, while the 34 says it's for Trail...

So is there any benefit of putting a 36 on my Giant Trance said to be a Trail bike, or will it have a negative effect?

Also they come in 37mm or 44mm offset I am not sure which one to order...

I am trying to find the offset on the Rockshox mentioned above but can't find the info.

Can you please help a noob here....

Thank you very much.

Edit;
I am 5'5" and 150 lbs., Noob, getting old and will not be doing 5+ foot jumps. Bike will be used in Arizona.

At your weight the 34 (especially if it is the new updated version) will be fine.

It won't be much less stiff compared to a 36 and will also be lighter.

Unless you plan on big jumps, and riding really rough tracks at speed then going to the 36 is probably not worthwhile.
Only the Factory model 34 has the Grip2 damper. Performance and Factory 36 have it. 6oz more than the 34.
Just looked it up---No you can't! Surprised me as I have a 2015 Fox 34 with a 160 air spring in it! lol
I think the 150mm 34 died when it turned out that you can't be #SoEnduro with a 36 and must have a 38.

I'm running a Factory 34 at 150mm on a 27.5 bike. Don't think its holding me back in any way. About 150 ready to ride.

I would grab that. Good deal.
That is a great deal but it's not the redesigned 2021 with larger negative air spring and updated Grip 2 damper (has VVC on both HSC and HSR). The 2021+ is a bit nicer, have one on the wife's bike and it's pretty nice. Plus it has the pressure relief valves and supports the new Fox mudguard.👍

Looks like you'll be spending $1K.
I'd get a Mezzer. Travel is internally adjustable with spacers. It's in stock.

It may not be the absolute latest greatest, but it's still not chopped liver. Unless the OP needs to be on the bleeding edge of new products, it's a good deal and worth considering.
