Hello everybody
I got an old specialized Enduro comp from a friend yesterday however the rear shock Fox float R while seating on the bike goes up and down 2-3 times then doesnt rebound anymore ..unless I get off the bike and wait 10 seconds.
If I dont seat on the bike and push on the seat the rear shock down & up no problem at all .
When pushing the shock without air can .
Anyone ????
I was told not worth fixing :(((

Does the rebound adjuster has an effect on rebound speed (closed very slow, open fast)?

Does the shock, without aircan, makes noises when you try to compress it?

Is it hard to compress by hand if the aircan is not installed?

Does the Shock looses air when you compress it a few times?

One of your aircan seals looks damaged on the pictures.

YES I SEE A BIT OF DIFFERENCE
Does the shock, without aircan, makes noises when you try to compress it?
YES ALSO WHEN REBOUNDING OIL ID COMING OUT A BIT
Is it hard to compress by hand if the aircan is not installed?
YES REALLY HARD

NO AIR LOSS WHEN COMPRESSING 4-5 TIMES
One of your aircan seals looks damaged on the pictures.
YES ITS CRUSHED..
BUT I DONT HAVE A GRASP OF WHAT DOES WHAT INSIDE MY SHOCK ?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME

If the shock isn't loosing air then the piston most likely needs a rebuild. As long as the piston shaft isn't scored then it's worth a rebuild. You can buy a used shock for less but then you don't know what that shock may be. An air seal kit is around $20, and you will want that at time of rebuild. Expect to pay around $200+

Sounds like one of your oil seals isn't doing its job anymore as well as a damaged air seal.
You could get a aircan sealskit yourself, but that would not help with the oil loss from the damper, so a service is due anyway.

You can't really do something by yourself apart from sending it to a suspension service. That's also what I would recommend.

Depending on the size your bike needs, a new shock will me more expensive and might be hard to get currently.

Ive rebuilt rear shock before..just replacing seals as in the pictures .Thats what you mean by piston?
Nothing to do with main shaft filled with oil and or Nitrogen ,right ?
Thank you for your time

The Piston is in the oil chamber. That's where your damping comes from and yes, that's where you need nitrogen to charge the IFP (also located in the damper tube).

To do a rebuild of the damper (NOT only the aircan), you will need some special tools such as nitrogen fill needle, shaft clamps, piston locking tool (if applicable in that shock), bullet tool etc. etc. So having it rebuild by a professional is probably cheaper and you will have a proper result as well.
