Spire deserves something nice like a Dorado or an Intend.

Have no use for running a double crown fork for 75% of my riding. Local shop has a few intends that he’s bought, I’ve tried them and they are nice but I’m not impressed for the price to performance ratioNeither. Tuning options for the Zeb kind of bite, and there's really nothing available for the 38 damper.
I wouldn't run a DC on a Spire either, unless you're just doing bike park laps.Have no use for running a double crown fork for 75% of my riding. Local shop has a few intends that he’s bought, I’ve tried them and they are nice but I’m not impressed for the price to performance ratio
Sorry, just realized I meant to respond to springs, not you. What else would you suggest, fork wise? EXT?I wouldn't run a DC on a Spire either, unless you're just doing bike park laps.
My point was that if you know you need custom tuning for whatever reason (outside of normal stature or very unique riding conditions), I wouldn't prematurely commit to either of those forks. To be upfront, I don't have a good alternative to suggest right now, but with both of those options, count on having to be happy with whatever you've got for the most part.

Any other options? I have no use for a DC fork for 80% of my riding and the few times I’ve ridden an intend the price to performance just isn’t there for me. They look nice and the build quality is great but they don’t feel that much better than off the shelf stuffthis
The Intend feels better, build quality is great, looks nice....your words....again I still think it's a good option.Any other options? I think you should read what I said again. I said it doesn’t feel much better. My other issue with intend is having to send it to another country if I need anything warrantied. $500 on an avy damper is cheaper than selling both of mine and buying any offering from intend. The Intend feels better, build quality is great, looks nice....your words....again I still think it's a good option.
By the time you spend the $$ getting a Zeb or 38 feeling better you'll be up for the same amount of $$ as the Intend....then the Zeb/38 will start creaking or the bushes will be a problem and you won't have a fork (my 38 did this to me and I'm still waiting on it...Fox have been painful to deal with too).
Ohlins RXF38....Formula Selva...ERA V2...Mezzer....these I would consider before dealing with Fox again.
I’m leaning towards the era. However I may give the mezzer a second chance. Do you have any time on the era?I would keep the ZEB if you are planning to completely gut the fork and swap the damper out and change to coil or Hybrid etc...the Kashima looks bling but the ZEB is the far superior chassis and likely you will get more for the FOX on resale. If you are not planning to completely gut the fork or have a preference for air then I would just sell both and get an EXT Era.
Yeah if I could find an rxf38 I may give ohlins another chance. I had a terrible time with my rxf36 m.2 cool but maybe a bigger chassis would fix that. For what it's worth, which is absolutely nothing. I yanked the Factory 38 off my Spire and got a Mezzer. Just way too many friends that missed riding time on Fox warranty work last year for me to risk it. The original plan was to put a DC fork on it, but a move out of the PNW caused me to pivot from that plan as it's going to be a lot less winch and plummet than my previous riding was. Though, I may still come back to it if/when the Formula DC fork comes out.
If I were in your shoes, owning both, I would sell the Fox because they get top dollar. Then send the Zeb to Avalanche. Next up, either a Mezzer or RXF38 as someone else mentioned. The Ohlins, assuming you have a service center nearby. They have a factory tuning database and can dial it in for you pretty easily. When I was racing motorcycles, this was one reason everyone was on Ohlins, the database took a ton of the guesswork out of it. Doesn't seem like they promote that aspect of their business as much as they should in the MTB industry though.
I've got a Super Deluxe with a Megneg on it now. Still playing around with it. I'm limited with a knee injury and the move. Plan is to get a few months on it and form a solid opinion of what I think of it, then ship it off to Avalanche. I yanked the X2 that came with it for the same reasons I ditched the 38Yeah if I could find an rxf38 I may give ohlins another chance. what shock are you running on your spire? I just picked mine up for a killer deal but haven’t been able to ride it yet
There's so much wrong here I'm not even sure where to begin.I would keep the ZEB if you are planning to completely gut the fork and swap the damper out and change to coil or Hybrid etc...the Kashima looks bling but the ZEB is the far superior chassis and likely you will get more for the FOX on resale. If you are not planning to completely gut the fork or have a preference for air then I would just sell both and get an EXT Era....the ZEB and 38 get a bad rep on here by others running other 'better out of the box' products. But the fact is the best you can get period is an AVY or FAST dampered RS or FOX with ideally a Smashpot or Hybrid Avy conversion... it's all well saying out of the box the ZEB and 38 suck but ultimately there is scope to mod them to be better than any other out of the box fork of which themselves are not modable beyond a few shim stack / oil changes. It's like saying a Ferrari is better than a Nissan Skyline stock...but if hypothetically you could only buy aftermarket mods for the Skyline and tune it to 2000hp and all the rest of the jazz then when is better stock doesn't really matter anymore. The fully modded ZEB's and 38 are better than any fork out there except perhaps a Dorado. You will get guys here telling you a Mezzer, Intend, EXT will perform better than a Smashpotted Avalanche damped ZEB...but erm no...no it won't. Plus the ZEB has the stiffest chassis by a country mile...twice as stiff torsionally than even the FOX 38. If you want the best out of the box for sure look at something else...if you want the best period you take a ZEB, gut all the **** out of it and mod it with the best you can find.
Curious what you think of the Mezzer on the Spire. Close to pulling the trigger on one myself just for shiggles. For what it's worth, which is absolutely nothing. It will be a while before I have any real opinion. Likely a couple months. I finally recovered from my shoulder separation, then had a setback on the knee I had an ACL operation on. Nothing life altering, just need to take it easy for another month or two. As of now, the bike just taunts me on the stand in the garage.Curious what you think of the Mezzer on the Spire.
