A friend gave me this 1992 20" Kona Explosive that appears to have been fully restored and in mint condition with brand new tires, rims, and headset. Almost all XTR (no middle ring or cassette. It has a Ti Velocity Stem, Kona tires right out of the box, and cool purple ano marzocchis, hyperlight bar, and nipples.

Cool bike, but too big for me unfortunately.

very nice!
there's a couple in that vintage on that auction site right now to give you an idea of what it might go for... Did you get the original rigid fork too??

I am just trying to be helpful so that this entire thread isn't yanked by the mods. It doesn't matter that you don't mention the ebay auction. The fact is that there is an ebay auction. Consequently, irrespective of your motivation, your post is acting as advertising for that auction by creating interest. Since MTBR charges $2 for that type of advertising, when you post without paying, you are breaking the rules, and basically stealing $2 for MTBR.

I do not think there is anything wrong with posting it for showing to other vintage afficionados on one site while putting it up for sale on another. I am aware of the rules and was careful not to link to another page or mention it was for sale.

I understand your argument, but if it is accepted, the practical result is that no one would or should buy classified ads. Rather by simply making an "informative" posting, in which it is made clear that the bike is for sale, but without saying more, and simultaneously listing the item on ebay, as was done here, anyone can do an end run around the rule.

I guess the moderators will make the decision as to whether this technique is appropriate. In any case, I hope you are giving your friend some of the cash you get from the bike he gave you ;)

GEEZ! Cut the guy some slack. He made no mention that this bike is for sale, only that it is to big for him. Mr. Stormtropper mentioned selling it. And you are right it is the moderators decision not yours.

Jesus, the guy has just posted a pic of a very cool bike - one we have appreciated seeing.

He hasn't mentioned an ad anywhere, or even mentioned it's for sale.

Don't see the word "moderator" next to your name, BTW.

He hasn't posted a link to any auction, nor has he even _mentioned_ selling it.

You (bushpig) say that you are 'just trying to be helpful' and then go on to suggest that the OP is about to 'steal $2 from MTBR'. You just sound like you are crapping on somebody's thread, for whatever reason.

BTW, if you have a criticism of my substantive argument, go wild. I think it is pretty tight. If you want to bust my ass, and cut my up personally, fine, but I have nothing invested here. The question is whether funding MTBR is worthwile. I think it is, and consequently dont' try try to find ways around the rules on posting adds. WT clearly thinks that it is fine to pump up his bike here, stealing free advertising, while selling his bike on ebay. When I sell, I pay for ads. If you want to support freeriders whose conduct ultimately undermines the asset you enjoy, best of luck. I don't ask why MTBR has the $2 classified policy, but if I am going to sell something, I don't try some lame a$$ end run around the rules, I pay the $2. If you want to support undermining MTBR, go ahead, I don't make money either way. Just be clear, that is what you are doing. Don't blame the messenger.

wow! bushpig, lighten up already!

I still didn't see ANY reference to his bike being for sale. EVERY bike I have, will have, talk about, post pictures of etc.is or will be for sale. So does that mean I have to take pictures out of my gallery when I have them for sale? Does that mean I can't talk about my bikes (and never mentioning where they are for sale) when I put them up for sale? I buy and sell for a hobby. I have NEVER mentioned anything about selling in my postings, just the fun of having bikes for the sheer enjoyment of having them and riding them. Geez, it's enough our so-called president is taking away our personal freedoms, please not here too. LET IT BE! I'll send in two bucks to cover the indescretion apparently only you see.

it's a beautiful bike. lets start off with that.

i follow eBay alot and it's a VERY common thing to have a new name pop up on the board with a "hey, check this out" or "how much is this worth" or "tell me the history on this thing" so that it can be immediatly posted on eBay. it doesn't bother me too much but i do pay the MTBR fee and these other people are not. still, it's a super cool bike to look at and i'll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was just trying to share something cool with us.

so, now that this forum has decided this is OK, check out my Teesdale built Mt Tam  :p :D :ihih: :prft: :cornut:
