It was HOT.
But is was fun....Eight of us braved the heat and rode our a$$es off.

1. The group shot
2. Toddski ruling one of many wheelie drop ins.
3. Put Away Wet gets his redemption. For all who don't know this is the infamous "Pogo" section.
4. Sushi running the swamp bridge on the 29er.
5. Severum hurt ribs and all runs the swamp bridge front to back. Good ride bro!

Glad I wasn't sweep for that group.
I took on sweep duties yesterday Mink, actually it was more like anchor duty to be honest. :) The terrain was challenging but rideable (I had to hop off and walk or ride around a few obstacles) but the weather really knocked me back a few paces. I drank a quart of Gatorade on the ride there, Emptied a 100 oz bladder of H2O during the ride, back at the car it was another quart of Gatorade and a beer (thanks Greg) and I was still thirsty. It's been such a cool Summer that it's easy to forget what it's like to ride in a real scortcher.
Todd, Mike and Greg rode down a nearly verticle 30 or 40 foot wall, as always, it's a pleasure to ride with all of you guys. ;)
I would love to have seen the skills display. It must have been a hot one.

It was a lot of fun, besides the three I mentioned earlier Put away wet is an awesome rider, Sushi seems to be able to climb anything with that 29 inch Surly hard tail, Louis was nursing a couple of throbbing ribs from a bad fall at the Concord quarries but still managed to kick my ass handily and we picked up a new member of the group (Miles from Portland) who more than handled himself.
We'll have to plan our next ride soon, perhaps we can check out the new trail at Pawtuckaway, if it's open yet or we could always fall back on old faithfull, Bear Brook.

Sure I can say it bud, just not sure I can ride it.
So when are we going?
That was a killer ride yesterday. The heat was really starting to mess with me at the end. Just got back from another ride up at Clifford Park. It was a nice change to ride in the rain this morning. Only problem with that it made all the stunts really sketchey. As far as another ride goes we are planning a Crum ride for Aug. 22nd. There are no races that weekend so it would be a good chance to ride with our whole group. We can do the bbq thing as well swimming. There is a river where the park is and the trails begin with plenty of parking. So let me know who's in so we plan on food.

Mike
FYI, the new trail at Pawtuckaway is open, big ride there on the 7th. Go to www.snemba.org for more info.
Pufdup - I'm on for that Crum ride. I think I can get Dave to go too. We will have to plan that Portland ride sometime also.
That was a great! :D :D :D Today only my left pinky is purple and sore, not bad for all the crashes I took…that’s funny..”purple pinky”..say that fast three times!

It was fun riding with you all; we’ll do it again sometime!
Todd - You ride very well man, glad I got to know you a little. If I had to label you though, it would be "The Best Crasher Ever". You dump and dab with more grace then anyone I have ever met.

You are like rubber bro, you just bounce right back up after a crash. The one you took at the end of the ride in front of me was brutal. I can't believe nothing was broken on your rig or person.
let me know about the next Aggie ride.

Greg
Good ride, everyone! Dave, I drank that much too, and still felt dehydrated. It was frikkin HOT! Nice pics Greg. My pogo rock looks mighty tiny in that picture  Sorry I had to jet so quickly after the ride - but I did make it to Concord in time for my girlfriend's little cousins' birthday party, complete with swingset, screaming little kids throwing balls at my face, and ice cold Juicy Juice. I'll be out of town for the next 3 weekends (cabin building, vacation, wedding - not mine!) but anyone who wants to ride during the week, lemme know!

Pogo rock is the name of that section for sure. It may look tiny from that angle but it is the approach that is tough. Blind!.
Deffinately want to ride during the week. maybe next though.

demoralizer

I was just wondering - which way was the demoralizer harder? Going in or coming out? The wall of shame got us all going in, did everyone ride it coming out? For those of you who had never been to Fortus Rockus before, what was your favorite section? I'd have to say the best part of the ride for me was that short seciton of smooth singletrack that I love so much. Greg, maybe next time you'll miss the tree.
My favorite part of that ride is the singletrack between the powerlines and the telephone poles. You know, where I suggested to Mike to do that ten footer. It flows very well and has some difficult sections at speed.

Yeah really. Three rides with you and three tree bonks. I should go and put a picture of myself on that tree. My favorite sections are the fast section you are elluding too, and I really like the powerline stuff. Especially that rock step-up to bridge to rock step-down. NICE!

Mmmm....Heat Stroke

I had great time riding on Saturday, but I definately wasn't ready for the heat. After that ride I didn't think I'd ever hydrate myself again.

My favorite stretch was the short stretch of fast smooth single track. That and the long bridges, even though I wussed out on both of them.

Next time ... I'll bring more water and a power bar...to show up the heat.

myles.
