Hi,
I heard Fort Ord is good on wet season. How is it now?
I want to try it soon if trails are in ok condition.

This is my first winter after my family moved down to Southbay area so I try to find out good trails on winter time.
This morning I did short ride on Kennedy (Sierra Azul) and trail was in perfect shape - amazing.
Demo seems good too.

Happy holidays.

Fort Ord Trails

jimyoo said:
went down last Sunday to ride and watch a buddy ride in a Cycle Cross race. That was the day that Ben Lomond in the S.C. mountains received over 7 inches of rain. It was really wet with standing water on most all the trail. BUT.....I have been down there 24hrs after a decent rain fall and have found that the trails drain rather quickly because of the sand. A buddy and I are going down this Friday in the early afternoon,( hoping to get a ride in without lights). We are going to start from Giggling Road and head over to East Garrison and back, making a loop of 2 to 3 hrs of riding. Nothing in our area is ridable as we are under the redwoods and it will take days (without rain) to become ridable here.

i'll tell you later

Probably be out there today. Start @ creekside hit up red rock, ewok, and goat (quick loop). Looks like we got some good rain last night/early morning. I'll see how well the trails are holdin up. I live pretty close to Fort Ord and will ride here when everything is too wet, plus its a nice place to bring the dogs off the leash :D.

Anyone else who rides down here, we should hook up, and ride. Post a ride. This online community thing is weird, funny, and cool.

hella wet

Not that fun, at least that's what I thought, didn't ride that long. I had to get out, hadn't ridden for a week and a half, I was fiendin for some trails. It was dumping rain the whole time and my rear deraileur was giving me problems (I knew I shoulda changed the cable). Even though the trails are pretty packed (meaning a lot of the sandy spots are packed down) there is still a lot of standing water in some spots. Plus all that damn sand gets all over everything.

It would be nice to ride out there on a beater bike, if you bring a nice bike it's gonna get dirty, the sand will eat your drivetrain. I had to take a shower with the hose before I could throw all my gear in the washer. The bike got the same treatment, hose wash, tomorrow or sometime this weekend it'll need to be taken apart and regreased, I'm lazy.

It sucks cause its too wet to MTB and to warm to snowboard. I guess I'll ride up and down my hill to get exercise.

Did a three hour ride leaving Giggling Rd. over towards the big water tank-powerlines over to trail 50 to 49. Almost over to East Garrision. Alot of singletrack around dry lake beds and running up and around ridgelines. Multiple connections of endless singletrack!
Three of us on ss, no standing water on trails packed sand and fast! :D

Great picture. I think he's always smiling on his bikes.
Any rides today.
