Yes im going to take my fork off (RS Judy J1) and replace it with a new one. (or a nice one off fleabay)
After reading a lot of the posts and all the helpful advice ive been looking at the Rockshox Reba. The SL is in my price range but the Race is a possiblility although im not going to just spend without a little research. At the other end, the Tora 318 looks on the surface to be a similar spec for less money so im assuming its a weight thing that makes them cheaper??????

I like the idea of an air fork, it appeals to my sort of geeky side to be able to tweak and change pressures for experimentation.

There are these Reba SL's on offer with the remote poploc included for £219 - here

i just noticed there are also these rockshox pike on a crazy deal - here
anyone use these??? how come they are so cheap??

Can anyone explain what solo-air and u-turn means?

I like to ride singletrack and XC mostly. Any advice greatly appreciated.

OK, been to my LBS and got some info about the new terminology here. U-turn is interesting but i wondered if it's that useful unless you do lots of different types of riding???? sorry for the noob questions!

You found those low prices because CRC is having its winter sale... they are awesome prices indeed... I was also thinking of getting the Reba SL from them, until I found a left over 06 revelation for about the same price :D

CRC is a great web shop... highly recommended!!

I love the new RS forks.. I now have a Pike Air U-turn and a Revelation dual Air... one detail if you went for the Pike, you would probably need to change your front hub/wheel if is is not convertible to 20mm axle.... just some additional detail to take into account

whooo thanks for the heads up crisillo, i was looking at those pikes and intently thinking about it. Your revelation looks the business from the picture in the 'show you singlespeed' thread. That Reba SL is great tho as it's disc only and has the lockout all for £219. I'm going to think about it today and then put my order in later i reckon! cheers mate!

Just ordered the Reba SL dual air with poploc! £219 delivery included! BARGAIN!

will post some pics when ive swapped them over. My J1's look like the fork off a kiddies bike, and im thinking that my rockhopper will like the change geometry wise from a 80mm to a 100m fork.

ah... one tip... the SL has an internal floodgate, meaning that you need an allen key to adjust it.... it is exactly the same size as the rebound knob, which you can take off by pulling down since it is hold in place by friction, so you can use the rebound knob to adjust the floodgate...

it will all be clear once you have the fork in your hands

You were totally right Crisillo, These forks are awesome! Been on a ride today round a little singletrack route me and my girlfriend ride when we need a blast around. Its not hilly but has some really nice wooded sections of tight turns, hollows and the odd jump. The Rebas are just amazing. The difference in the handling of the bike is incredible - it literally feels lke a different bike. I removed a spacer in the steerer but with the increased fork travel it has tweaked the geometry of my rockhopper to bring it up into a great riding position. I always loved the geometry on it , now its just better. I've had the hoses shortened on my brakes too, and they are working really sharp now. All in all, the handling is sharp and more direct, and i was surprised how useful the remote lockout is. I love the feel of the air damping too, really refined and quit too. They are smooth as silk and my bike is pretty light now with the weight i've saved. (My bike seems to be the only thing losing weight recently!)

I honestly dont know how riding can get any better. Actually, thinking about it I'll be much happier when i get used to the eggbeaters. I'm still having comedy dismount problems with them. Great fun! :thumbsup:

Looks like you're using a left lockout on the right side.

the button is suppose to be closest to your thumb.
the lever is in the correct position.
they make a right lever and a left lever. you seem to have a lefty.

it obviously works just fine how it is. the design is made so that you don't have to reach across the lever to hit the button.

I'm actually left handed so was thinking after my ride that it might be more comfortable on the left, but as you said, it certainly didnt interfere with it's operation. What you say about having to reach across the lever to the button makes complete sense. Although when you're a lefty in a right handed world, you get used to getting around these things!

I notice on some of the other more expensive forks in the range they have a thumbwheel to control compression damping so in that respect would also make sense to have that closest to you.

Yeah, the thumbshifter idea seems to work pretty well from the reports I have read... it is similar to having a PopLoc Adjust, cut you can set it at any point on the fly, instead of having to turn the compression wheel..
