fork creaking

Hi, i have a 01 Z1 MCR bomber, and it has this creaking noise whenever i use the front brake. I took it then, then install my old rock shox 100 on and the creaking noise was gone, so i am pretty sure it is the fork that is creaking. Not sure where it is creaking from, but it sounded like it was from the crown. Does it mean its no good anymore, or what is there i can do to cure this problem. Thank you

there were some issues with '00 & '01 zokes and creaky crown/stanchion interface (the first years with mono-mag crown, or whatever it's called). It may be too old for a warranty, but I'd give marzocchi a call (tech support) and see if they'll do anything for you.

since I've got an invoice on my desk, the phone # is 661.257.6630

good luck!

PS, it could be something else creaking, so I'd grease up the stem & spacers, or to isolate it's the fork- clamp the steerer in a vice (use some wood blocks or something so you don't mess up the steerer) or your bicycle repair stand and see if you can replicate the sqeak off the bike...
again, 'zoke tech guys can give you advice on this.

I have a 2002 Atom and it creaked. I had it sent back to Marz and they either a) replaced the steertube or b)reset the crown on the stanchions, I just don't remember which. I was able to get the work done on warranty, but the fork wasn't very old at the time.

I believe it was the steer tube. It took a while to get it back, so keep on them about it if you do send it in.
I have two year 2000 Z2 Atom 80s. Both creak like you describe. When I talked to Marzocchi they said it would be ~30USD to repress the steerer tube into the crown or repress the stanchion tubes into the crown. Accroding to the guy I talked to the stanchion tubes were most likely the cause. The catch is that Marzhocchi will only deal with a complete fork which basically means you have to pay them to rebuild it too so add another +60USD. This is kind of a pain because they are flat out easy to rebuild and it seems like a waste of 60 bucks. But it's a great deal if you don't want to work on your fork.

What I couldn't get a straight answer on was whether the creak was mainly a nuisance or if it portends something catastrophic. It's been almost 5 years and the creak hasn't changed.
Marzocchi used to "cryofit" their stanchion tubes into the crown. The noise or creaking you're hearing is movement. They used to have a program for replacement of crown/stanchion or maybe even new fork dependant on the year. Contact them, they're fairly responsive.

So you never sent the fork back to Marzocchi to get it repress? Does the creak happen evertime when you stop? Thanks

If you are talking about me, no. I've been just letting it ride for 4+ years now. I once thought it was getting worse but it turned out to be something wrong with my frame and an ovalized headtube. It creaks on a hard brake or a deep compression.
