I keep a stable of 6 bikes going for my son and I, all with marzocchi z1, z2, and z3 forks bought off ebay, for about 45-55 $ each. Until recently. Then I picked up a suntour xc pro fork on a goof to try out the adjustable travel. Didn't ever get fond of the travel feature, but am starting to like the fork. very rigid, smooth, adjustable thru air. also very heavy, if that's a concern. Anyway, my point is suntour is a little underrated on their better stuff, which can be had very cheap. I paid $67 (new) with shipping on ebay. I mentioned the marzocchis because you can get a very good fork that's easily rebuildable, if neccessary, for very little money. I probably didn't answer your original question, but hopefully the info helps.
