Forget HID & screw LED's. Can you say PLASMA?

It'll probably be a few years off before these things are comercially available, but by the look of it they already have it at a scale which can be applied to bicycles very well... and if the efficiency is as high as they claim, longer run times and higher efficiency than LED - possibly with power exceeding HID's... this may well be the new "perfect" high power bike light!

We wants it! We needs it!

As soon as you can get them, bet on the fact ill be building a DIY kit!

Anyway it seems this is long old and forgotten, hohum.
No its still in its early stages and fixture design/packaging is the challenge this early in the game but they seem to be progressing well.

They have made - TV backlights, general area light, and most recently stage/entertainment lighting with plasma bulbs. They have at least a few versions of the bulbs now.

it's definately cool to see new technologies emerging..

this plasma light (at least the one in the video) doesn't seem too grounbreaking (from a raw output standpoint) as Cree is already claiming 161 lumens per watt.

be interesting to see where this goes though.
