Force needed to install BB30 cranks?

1074 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  frdfandc
Installing some BB30 cranks, FSA Afterburners and the cranks do not want to go in easily. Does it require a rubber mallet of some kind to get them in? I hope not.

I met resistance after getting it only 1/4 way in, not even to the second bearing.

As much as people talk about taking the cranks on and off to mess around with the bearings, something does not sound right with what I'm doing.

Are you putting the crank thru the bearings from the right side of the bike...? I've made that mistake before

Yep. Cranks going in the right way. As much as I have read about people complaining about play in their cranks, seems that I have the opposite problem. I chickened out trying to get them in. Fail on my part! I can install any other kind of bottom bracket and crankset in my sleep, blindfolded. But since I have never done this BB30 type of install before I'm gun shy.
I did an install today on a BB30 road bike. It was a little tight. The use of a rubber mallet fixed all.
