I just started riding a little a couple years ago on an old specialized full suspension bike. I had a front rack for panniers and did some long distance rides on the road mostly. I put road tires on the thing, and was able to have pretty comfortable long rides. I do admit though, that I have no frame of reference for that (never tried anything else), and I have a feeling there's something much better.
I want to continue that kind of thing, and also try to get into the mountain stuff. So what I think I want is something strong and can take a back rack easily even with rear suspension, that will carry a heavy load; something that can climb steep things; and something that can rip it up on the mountain once I learn how to rip it up myself. I'm thinking in the 1500 dollar range.
Any suggestions?
