I think I've seen a few pics of someone who has mounted chromoly Redline Flight cranks into recent model Redline mountain bikes. But I'm just wondering how you go about it step wise and if it truly sets up well overall. I'm sure for the Monocogs, it's not so problematic. But specifically, has anyone who is running these cranks experiencing trouble when they try to run them as part of a 1x8 or 1x9 drivetrain?

I assume the things needed would be the following: the crank arms, a a matching threaded "Euro" style BB set, and a chainwheel.

I've heard the Redline spindle is a bit short and may be problematic for setting ss chainline on an mtb, but I don't have firsthand knowledge of that. They're fairly inexpensive at $140 w/bb, but Profiles are only $180 w/bb and are considered to be better cranks by most people. That being said, I have had zero problems with the Flights that came on my Proline Cruiser. For 1x8 gearing, you need a sprocket made for 3/32 (8 spd) chains. For 1x9 you would have to (in theory) use a spider and and 9spd ring.
