Fitting Crossmax SL to VT2

Hi Guys....
I have been in the process of looking at updating my VT2. After looking at many options and riding a few I have come to the conclusion that I may keep my bike for a little longer. I ride 100 km weekly off road.
I have decided to updrade my standard XT/Mavic 223 wheelset with a set of Crossmax SL.
I do a lot of hill climbs and single trail, the odd rock garden. I am not a jumper and do not do drops. My objective with the Crossmax wheelset is to get a faster rolling bike plus run tubless. I do compete in the odd adventure race in New Zealand which consists mainly of 4WD tracks through our maountains.
Questions.
1. Will these be a big improvement?
2. I have Hayes disc's. I assume the rotor will just line up on the Crossmax in the same position once rotor is swapped and callipers are adjusted?
3. I have heard they are very stiff they will not make the ride harsher?

For what its worth, I ride the Xmax XL not the SL and we swapped them on my friends VT2, it was a relatively big jump in performance. The Xmax felt definitely quicker than his stock wheels. The SL should be even better than my XL so I'm sure you will be happy. I really love xmax wheels, running regular tires with Stan's goop inside with those wheels is a blessing, no more flats.

I don't know for sure but I don't see why the rotors would not fit directly from wheel to wheel, as far as I know there is only the Shimano XTR rotors that are different from all others. And for stiffness, the stiffer the better, even if a wheel is stiff it's not what will make your ride harsh, it's what will make your ride enjoyable when you hit rough stuff.

1) Yes, the only problem is that all parts are propietary making repairs more costly and some shops don't have the parts readily available.
2) If you use 6 bolt rotors you'll be fine
3) The SLs are the lightest of the XMax's, if you only plan to ride XC you're good to go. They're strong and light, the XLs are a bit heavier and stronger.

I used to run the previous generation of XMax on my VT and had 0 problems with them.

If you want an easy to fix and good riding set get a Mavic X819 UST rim and build them around DT spokes and CK, Hadley, Hope hubs.

I agree with DD. Theres nothing particularly exceptional about Crossmax that you cant get with conventional wheels, usually cheaper, with better hubs, and easier to repair.
