Heh everyone, due to a non-anticipated job change (layed off after 20 years) I am now transported to S. Calif. living currently in Antelope Valley and have found some great riding here in the hills, but I'm feeling a need for a geared bike to match my SS Surly KM. I called a Fisher dealer in Lancaster they said they could order one, not what I wanted to hear. Is there a Fisher dealer within the LA area, maybe 50 miles away max that stocks 29er's? I work in Santa Clarita and seem to get the same answer from the Fisher dealers there too. Also what gearing does everyone use here in the mountains? My Arizona 32x19 doesn't quite do it for me up some of the long sustained climbs. Seems I was huntin for 1 more tooth! Thanks all and looking forward to riding all the trails out here. V

32x19 on a socal 29er is pretty deep.... the only guys running that are the 140lb ricky-racer types pretty much.

FWIW,

Madre runs 32x21 on her Niner.

I run 32x22 on my Vulture.

Donkey runs 32x20 on his Strong, but is threatening for 32x19....then again, he IS one of those 140lb ricky-racer types. In fact, I snapped this pic of Donkey from a recent ride, just to give you perspective on how skinny he really is. :p

Call Michael's Bikes in Newbury Park.
And Trek Store in Ventura - Michael's has the local market so my Trek dealer in T.O./Westlake can't carry them. (Did they miss a big opportunity?)

Did Madre run the 32x21 (Niner) on the Vision Quest record? Awesome time.

I got my Rig at the Trek store in Ventura. I don't know what else they carry. And, for SoCal SSing I use 32x20 most of the time and 32x22 when I know it's going to be a long day.

No, she hasn't done the VQ on a 29er yet.
Last year was on her 24.5lb Surly 1x1. Gearing was 33x20.

Her first race aboard her Niner was 05 Sea Otter SS Endurance race with Marla Streb.
Oh now I recognize the bike, she's in the 2004 VQ DVD climbing Black Star.
