Some okies

made it to Slaughter pen today not bad on the ridges but the creek bottoms were muddy and yucky. We did have a blast its a great trail system. looking forward to riding it dry.We are snowed in and frozen in here in Tulsa.
It was messy in some places today... I cant understand why? These trails are rideable in the rain?!? At least I have.. and every local has... must have something to do wih freezing and thawing? Very srange.. moisture is still just moisture? Anyway, it was good to be on our bikes!!!

When the layer of earth below the topsoil is frozen the water can't seep into the ground and makes the trail very fragile. Riding in these conditions can do permanent damage to the trails. Trails around here are most vulnerable in late Autumn when the ground isn't completely frozen and in the early Spring when things are just beginning to thaw. If I trail ride during these times of year I'll go early when temps are below freezing as to not do any damage, or I'll stick to the roads.
Yesterday my ride was snow over ice. No pictures, but it was interesting at times.
Quad in free ride area

seems some one on a quad tore up the berms and jumps in the free ride area. we dont even live there but found it very disturbing alot of work obviously went in to it.

The trails here are 97% chirt rock(fine gravel) on the surface and substrate. Having moved here from an area that is all dirt (KC) I would agree with your statement. It just does not apply here. I have spent many volunteer hours armoring, creating drains, on the business end of a pulaski and shovel. I'm no neophyte, I earn my dirt. That being said, fine gravel with lots of water is not mud.

That sucks!! Progressive trail design just completed that new section not long ago... what a tool. I'm involved with f.a.s.t (friends at slaughter pen) a group of volunteers that maintain the trails SPH. We will now have to repair that section.

The pics should speak for themselves... look at our bkes, and tires. :D The trail surface too.
Great job

Its obvious that a lot of hard work and love has been invested in Slaughter Pen the trails are well marked and a blast to ride i dont know if the cold front affected you but we are frozen rock solid and riding is good but at 18 degrees toes and fingers tend to get rather chilled.

What a great, cheap way to keep your hands warm!

Nice pics everyone, I'm wishing the weather here would stay cold enough for the ground to stay frozen so I can ride!
