Hi all, first ride on my brand new Altitude A50 today and it was a blast!
Giving the bike a post ride clean however I noticed 2 areas on the frame where the paint had rubbed through quite badly, on the head tube caused by the front brake cable and on the right seatstay caused by the inside of my shoe.
Is it usual for the paint to be so poor on Rocky’s and this level of ribbing usual, or is something else afoot (defective paintwork)?

Now you know where to add frame protectors. I always try to add them before the first ride but always end up adding more after a ride or two when I see scratch marks. Cable rub is always going to rub through paint. Nothing to worry about. A few scratches always makes a mountain bike look better anyway.

I saw the pics on the RMB group page. If anything, I think the matte RMB paint has a tendency to chip a bit earlier, not per sé wear through faster. I guess you could hit up the dealer and see what RMB think of this themselves. I do have similar experiences with almost every other brand, though. My hardtail (non-RMB) has matted clearcoat all over the place, even though I hardly clean it and ride it only at home (loamy trails with not a rock in sight).

I've gone back to the dealer and put the question to them. Hopefully i'll get a response in the next day or two, however i suspect it'll be put down to standard wear and tear, in which case i'll look to touch up paint the areas myself and apply frame protection over the top.

I'm generally pretty good with applying frame protection but the two areas that are work are not areas where i would have thought it was needed. oh well...may as well just get on and ride the thing!
