I finally turned my Bontrager Race into a SS.
Haven't taken it out on the trails yet, probably tomorrow.
I used a Surley Singleator, 34 Real ring up front, an 18 SS cog in the rear, and a BMX chain. The chain line is nice and straight and the Singleator keeps good tension on the chain. I have it pushing the chain down because I didn't have enough room to push it up.
The Bonty looks stripped down, tough, and purposeful now.
I can't wait.
Any tips for a SS newby?

Took it off road yesterday.
Fortunately for me, this was a new trail and was very non technical.
Some climbs, some swooping downhills, some rail trail.
I liked it.
Obviously, I stood a lot more and almost made it to the top of all the climbs.
The main reason I wanted to ride a SS is so that I can strengthen my legs so I can push bigger gears on my geared bike.
Still need a new front wheel cuz my Ringle Super Duper Bubba keeps breaking spokes.
I"ll probably just get an LX or XT and keep my Mavic 517 to relace it with.
Also need a new BB.
Other than that, the bike is great.
Nice chain line, and it's quiet in the woods.
Kinda freaky.

pedal, pedal, pedal, and when you are spun out and cannot go any faster, sit back and coast. Enjoy the ride.

If you get bitten, you can hang up that geared bike. BTW, a Bonty Race, now there is a good place to start. :thumbsup:
