Final Fork Showdown

Okay thats it...I need to make a decision. Please read:

My friend is still interested in my fork. I would sell it to him used for $250.00 dollars. I could then use this money, to upgrade to a new fork.

The financial breakdown:
I got a good sized bank account, and spending another 250 won't kill me. I am eyeing a 2005 Marzocchi 66RC 170mm. Its 500 dollars and 500-250=250 is what I would have to pay out of my pocket. Before you go all "OMFG DO IT YOU NOOB" There is a situation. With winter coming on...the snow season coming forward...spending money isn't exactly something I am encouraged to do......

However...it isn't a huge loss. Spending 250 wouldn't kill me at all.

The Dilemma:
What pushes me to do this deal is that I get a great deal now and have a great fork for the 2006 riding season. If I spend the money now...no worries at all later. My Z150 is a great fork, but an upgrade at this price is very hard to beat. Rain and Snow means less and less riding so the 66 wouldn't see any action till later on in 2006.

The Question: Get the deal now or hold out for a 06?

ANY Comments and Suggestions are greatly appreciated...Thanks.

66sl.
Well another factor I am considering is the rake it'll give my bike. It'll be perfect for Downhilling...which is what I am trying to turn my bike into...(The 05 66)

I dunno this is a tough decision that has been bugging me for a while...

buy a used 05 and see if you like it, otherwise sell it for whatyou go it for and try something else out.

If you're looking to increase the rake, the '05 66 is the one you want, so go buy it. The 05 66 sits really tall, taller than a Jr T, so if you want to slacken your head angle, get an '05. One of the "improvements" for '06 ((aside from 2 new models, 1 with ETA if you're into that sorta thing) was to shorten it up a bit so it doesn't screw with your geometry quite as much - which is the main reason I'm going to ride my older then dirt SuperT for another year untill the '06 66's go on closeout.

If you're gonna do it, ya better do it now - the 170's are thinning out pretty quick now at around $500. (FYI-I don't recall who it was but one of the "major" web dealers was selling 66rc's for 475 & they had 170's, shop a bit)
yeah the 05 66 rakes your head angle 30mm less than the 200mm 888.

Be careful, i dont know if your green weyless is made to have a fork that tall on it.

It would also increase the BB height and lowever steering response, which is one of the biggest benefits of a nippier frame like weyless.

remember when we were at cougar? you would be better off racing that with the 150 instead of the 66.

I say wait for 06 but it will be much more expensive.....

DUDE honestly, i would say dont do anything to your bike, ride it more, and save that money to get a sicker bike with a better fork. I dont think 20mm of travel (and raking HA, raising BB) is worth 250. Right now you could even use your bike for Mountain cross.

Good luck man, i will see you next year, i upgraded classes again but i am sure i will cya around.

The 05 66RC is a magic fork, It really is awesome, If you bought it and the geometry was appropriate to your frame then you would never have any comlplaints, but the improvments on the 06, not to mention the selection, is probably worth the money. The 06 66s are the new kings of Freeride, I've heard good things about the 36 van too.
Pick up a used o5 66RC on ebay. If you like it, keep it. If you don't, sell it again, pick up the 66 RCX2. VF is crap, don't do it. I know that you're riding on SSVF now, but the other dampeners are just so much smoother.

You doing Sport? Or did you age up? I'm gonna be hanging with the big class...the 19-24 class. I am thinking of doing begginner proabobly...I don't get around to racing that often. AAre you gonna be in the 19-24 class?
