I picked this up from the junk yard for $10.00. I want to see how a Klunker would feel before I started looking for a old frame. I got this home cleaned it up with some 0000 steelwool and mothers polish put on a set of wheels, derailleur, shifter and front brake I had in the parts bin and took for a ride around the hood. I like the way it rides and will be looking for a nice old frame. I like the ones with the straight down tube. when I was looking at the frame I noticed it is fillet brazed all execpt the rear dropouts I was surprised. did Huffy do often?

Are any other joints brazed? Cuz that looks like a booger braze repair to me.

Whuh? I'll have you know my first real mountain bike was a Huffy.

yea the head tube, bb and chainstays are also brazed. I just posted this cause TV is boring and to bring out those SNOBS lol! I heard that huffy had mechanized way of doing the brazing,

Electro welded. Not brazed. Even cheaper than normal crappy Huffy welds. Not to be too mean spirited, you have the right mindset in that the straight downbar Schwinns are where it's at.

Cool beans. I like it.
Kind of "rat rod" cool, and perfect for bike-path-esque riding, runs for coffee, etc. A buddy's kid owns two high-end road bikes and an old cruiser "klunked" like that, and the klunker gets all the miles at college.

As if kids did't enough to think about, then throw in some shifters....two of them. Amazing we grew up, well some of us anyway. Nice bike BTW.

Why would you think anybody here would be 'upset' by what he rides? Personally, I'm just puzzled about that feeling of 'smug' satisfaction that allegedly comes from riding a poorly constructed frame outfitted with low quality parts. Apparently the posts on this thread just have not helped me gain any new insight into the topsy-turvy world of reverse status
