lemme begin with sayin this is not a call to arms! just somethin i thought interesting is all. in passion the question was raised, "If You Had Endless Money What Bike Would You Buy?" 100 posts and no turners. dont ask how many fuels. 1 guy went way off topic and said he wanted a recreation of the nuremburgring and some vintage f 1 cars. we have a winner!

so in this spirit i axe you all, if ya had $850.00 what bike would ya buy?

Cactus, here you go> This is what I would get for 8fitty:

Come on CC you got to give us a bigger allowance! I already have a turner, 850 wouldn't even buy a turner frame.

With 850 I would buy a the curtlo frame in the image below. I would love to have a custom built steel hard tail. I know you said bike, this is the best I could do with 850.

I just bought it. Should be here tomorrow. A Choco-Brown (they were out of pink) Cove Handjob XC frame and some sweet bits to go on it.

A road bike.
What does $850 get- besides maybe a nice Hardtail frame? Did you mean $8,500?
cheaters!

common guys! play by the rules, will ya? just about everyone got handed divorce papers this am. were lookin for a $850 bike. i made no other limitations this time. dont care where ya get it, if its this years or a close out, new or used even. some proof of yer score would be nice like zion did but id even take yer word for it. yall have fun walkin the trail with a frame in yer hand! the one with a mark where yer wedding ring used to live before ya blew the budget. again.

Geez, ya sell your Turners and 'they' just use any excuse to discredit you.

I'd ride on the moon.... no wait, I'd do two chicks at once....... on the moon.

But seriously, I'm pretty freaking happy with my current ride, so I'd get the frame and all the parts blue printed, and lighten it up a little without compromising performance. I'd buy a bunch of other bikes as well. Then I'd have my own private lift serviced MTB Park with a full time dedicated trail building/maintenance crew. I'd have water guns lining the trail, so I could have that 'third day after rain' most of the time.

I'd have my own helicopter for snowboarding. I'd own a replica of the Nurburgring and a Varity of racing cars. A 1967 Lotus F1 (pre wing era). Various NGT & GTR cars. I'd host races.

Well one thing is for sure; with all the money in the world I'd still MTB 4 or 5 times a week. I do that anyway, so in the end I don't really need all that money - well except to do two chicks at once on the moon.

{edit} - I'd also drive out to Nebraska and kick CC in the nuts
even though i cant spell nurburgring very well, ya had my total respect with that post. ill be sure to follow ya home from yer nut kicking adventure with a mclaren mk8 on a trailer. or a lotus 78. no, ill bring my fave - a porsche 917 in full gulf colors of course. let me know when ya have a 956 in stock. ive always wanted to drive that car too.
roadie

well... this time last year I bought 4 motobecane 'le champion sl' road bikes from bikesdirect.com. Parted out three of them on ebay and ended up with a 15.5lb road bike with nice components for about $300. Add on really nice pedals, shoes, high end saddle, a few upgrades and misc. other roadie stuff and I've probably got $850 in it.

I know it's not what I "would do"... but more of what I "did do" but I guess I'm saying I'd do it again. Ya, road riding sucks compared to mtn biking, but at least you can get out in the afternoon even if it rains all morning (hell, you can even ride in the rain if you want), and it builds endurance and burns calories like crazy.. man I'm hungry.
No other criteria?
Err...my new IRO Mark V track bike? The frame was $375, bar, stem, headset was $150, and the other existing parts and wheelset cost me about $450 a few years ago.

Now, the more astute readers with be saying "Whoa, dude, you're over budget". And you'd be right, 'cept those be Canadian dollars. :cornut: I would have inserted a joke here about pesos a few years back, but our dollar is doing alright these days.
Even with the current exchange rate, I figure it comes close enough, especially considering it's not even a mountain bike and we're all just goofing anyway. We are goofing, right?

I can snap some pics this evening if anyone is interested in a bike that has no business on dirt.

That's the prototype, it comes with cromo cranks and v-brakes:

If I had the spare money, I would order one today and lay down skidmarks around every corner i town! :)

Well I've changed my mind; I'm going to be charitable.

I'm buying all the starving kids in Africa an Ibis Mojo with full xo/king/Thomson.

But since you were the AZ state champ or sumpthing, you can drive my cars. Now where to find limitless cash.... hmmmm anyone have a copy of 'Drug Cartels for Dummies' that I could borrow.
