New trail that fully opened back in July 2021, in the Tillamook State Forest (west of Portland):

It was featured yesterday in this OPB article:

It's probably wet now and likely to get snowed in through the winter, but for reference:

Was told by the builder dude, (forget his name, great guy) that the plan is to build trail from the top of Story Burn and connect it with the Wilson River trail at Elk Creek. Fear and Loaming is the first section built of that plan. When it's complete THAT will be one awesome trail.

Looks great guys. Can't wait to come back up and try it out. Gives me another option close(ish) to my daughter's house in Newberg. The future plan to connect clear from the top of Storey Burn to the Wilson River Trail will be awesome.

I might be up around Christmas. What’s the chances of it not being snowed in by then?

The pass is usually clear but if there's snow it can take a while to melt out in the woods in there.

Yeah, I'd watch the weather and trail reports for sure, particularly snow elevations, if I were thinking about going there. The top of Fear and Loaming is at 3300ft. That's only 800ft lower than Marys Peak. It's 600ft higher than the top at Alsea Falls and 1300ft higher than the top at Black Rock.

Some years Mary’s holds snow into May. Good info Tim!

Does Mary's have any unique weather anomalies due to its height and prominence compared to the rest of the range?

It sometimes has cloud cover hanging around it, like prominent peaks do, but not nearly to the same extent that you see with the High Cascade peaks. You can (like yesterday) see snow on it when the passes that are near it in elevation (Tombstone pass at 4300ft or Santiam Junction at 3800ft on US20, for example) also have snow. By the way, just spotted the first snow visible from the valley floor on Marys yesterday.
