Fat Bike Storage

2278 Views 24 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  jrob300
We currently have 2 gravel bikes and 2 MTB's and hang them on the wall using these: Velo Hinge | Feedback Sports | Elegant Bicycle Storage Solutions Super happy with these, but they will not work for Fat Bikes

We would, however, like to hang our Fat Bikes in the same manner. The only mount I've found are these: Fat Tire Bike Wall Rack | Swivel Vertical Storage Mount

Curious if anyone has any experience with these. Is the company legit? Do the racks work as advertised? Know of any similar options?

I just got a couple of Steady Racks...one for fat tires and the other for a regular MTB. They seems solid but I have not installed them yet.

Thanks. Curious... did you order direct? Or from a Amazon/eBay/other??
Hilarious. Storing fat bikes. I own 15 bikes and have issues storing the other garbage, all I ride are the fat bikes! 😆😎

Steadyrack for fat bikes works great. Only issue was that the rear wheel stabilizer is too skinny for fat bikes. I made a rough one out of scrap wood. Not a big deal. The front wheel rack does all the real work.

The skinny models work great for skinny bikes too.

This is what I was looking for, Thank you. I had never heard of them before. Did you order direct from them??? Or did you find distribution somewhere?
I bought it directly from them. I usually do that, whenever possible. That way, it is probably easier to get warranty assistance as well.

One is for the Farley fat bike. The other is for a 27.5+ MTB....both see less usage. The others will get racks once I test these two out out. I have a Ripley I ride the most (so that stays on a ground stand) and some gravel and roadbikes that need to get off the ground.

Same. I've got 8 of the Steady Racks and love them. Not cheap, but the swivel is a great feature.

I ordered mine from Amazon. I believe the Steady Rack mothership is in Australia?

jrob, PM if you want to swing by and check them out in person.

facepalm You're right... I wasn't paying attention. The only place I found them last night was here: Bike Racks | Bicycle Accessories | Home Racks | Car Transport | Bike Hitch and Roof Racks and for some reason thought that was the company that owned SteadyRack.... I could only find the skinny ones on Amazon. I'd feel a little better ordering from them.

There are boxes on the page to choose fat, fender, classic and mtb.

I got the first one to make things easy for my wife -- both the roll-in and swivel features help -- and never looked back.

Ahhh.... cool. You're a better internet sleuth than I am apparently.... I found a bunch of pages like that, but none with size choices... Thanks.
There’s a local distributor in my town. So that makes it easy for me. I have 6 racks of various sizes. If you do put a bunch in a row it really helps to think about how the bikes and handlebars can Tetris together. It’s possible to make bikes fit closer than the manual says.

The regular rack is only good for road to 2.3 tires. 2.5 minion? Get the Mtn rack. Fat rack can hold a Johnny 5 with no issues.

With 5-star ratings on Amazon from 3,367 customers I would say that these racks are without risk, so long as you have a stud available. I would not expect drywall anchors to be effective but lots of folks try and then blame the seller.

Drywall anchors? That’s madness. I fixed two 2x10s in parallel across my garage wall. Then I just screw the Steadyracks to them. Reposition and shuffle around as needed to fit different arrangements of bikes.

I guess if you’re mounting in your living room things might be different….

I was going to put a couple of 2x4s or 1x6s, attach them to the studs, and do it that way.

You can find the larger hooks, put a pipe on them and bend them out enough to fit the fat tire.
I have my bucks saw hanging on the wall like that right now

If you’re the DIY type, I’ve seen a few simple wood versions pop up on my YouTube feed this past year. You can adjust the width and length to fit any tire…

Mine are mounted to studs, but these racks have enough holes to support mounting in drywall, as long as you use something akin to Toggler anchors.
And I should add....I do like my Steadyracks. But if I was only trying to store one bike, or wasn't so desperate to maximize space in a crowded garage I'd go for a cheaper/simpler option as others have mentioned. But I don't regret spending the $$$!
