Why is it almost every picture I see of a fat bike has BB7's on it? I would think hydraulic brakes would be more trouble free, since there's no cable to ice up. I ride my 29er in snow and cold with Avid Juicy 7's and never have a problem.

So, Fat bike guys, what's the secret?

Some of this is also original intent. with the invent of fatbikes came more adventure riding, and as such some were really far from anywhere. With mech brakes, there is more option to correct issues on the trail, not so much with hydro's. Same reason the Pugsley has the offset fork option, allows for redundancy.

I've been using Hayes HFX hydros and they work great until the bores corrode a little and prevent the pistons from retracting fully. They don't drag really but make supremely annoying squeaky noises. Planning a rebuild, at which point they'll go on a summer bike and my fat bike will get (drumroll....) BB7s.
